Clutch/ France

The drive shafts must come out and lower arms require dropping of bottom ball joints before g box can be pulled of engine.
OK, I can’t argue against that as I wasn’t there to see him do the job for me. But he doesn’t have a ramp or lift, just hydraulic jacks and axle stands. Whatever, he is a one man band, and did it all alone.

It's on 50k mostly done by myself..I know how to drive and owned a small haulage company in years past. Also mechanical engineer.
My initial thought was master cylinder but reviews on fiat forum say it will end up being the slave cylinder due to where it is and the heat.
Now I have phoned safeguard they won't come back to the same problem within 28 days so I just can't move or I could be waiting a while if changing the master cylinder myself doesn't cure it.
I don’t recall the layout of the master/slave , but if there is a flexy hose between master and slave (there must be somewhere) then a hose clamp would isolate the master. If that gives a solid pedal then the master is fine.

With the engine off are you able to select any gears?

From past experiences I'd say the slave cylinder is at fault (internal ) is there any signs of fluid dripping between gearbox and engine?

All gears selectable.i have got the pedal to work and now been able to get the front high enough to see what's going on without too much guess work.
Slave cylinder is leaking black fluid and missing the engine so it looked dry.
I have moved it back and fro in the aire using the clutch as much as possible...

Slave cylinder needs replacing...

So there was a motorhome show here today

Château de Sassenage

Off I go as there must be a garage with mechanics as there's over a 100 plus motorhomes there for sale
Not one ,none,nothing
Best I got was try somewhere Monday
Grrrr.

Hope you get sorted soon, im removing engine on car to fit a better unit and clutch, i may fail as way way to much cr-p and hard to get at.
Moderen stuff is made to be scraped after a few years.

There's a big shortage of qualified vehicle mechanics in the UK. Dunno what the situation is like in France, but more than likely in the same boat. 🤔🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately, everybody entering into the world of "work" seems to want to be an "influencer" these days instead, not get their hands dirty, and vehicle mechanics is a pretty tough, dirty job.

As @Alf mentioned in a post the other day, the days of great characters and vehicle engineers who were real mechanics (not fitters) and who didn't mind getting their hands dirty (with fossil fuels) is waning.

Apologies - my grumpy moaning aside(!) - good luck getting sorted, hope you find a solution soon 🤞👍

Apologies for me being grumpy but...
I asked if I try to get it back to the uk would they still cover it..
Answer ===NO
They are now taking it to a compound and us and the dog to a hotel as it might take a while to find a garage to fix it.
11 am today they asked what vehicle it was ..I did have to bite my tongue a bit as they had all the details including a copy of the vc5 last Thursday....grrrr
AA recovery in case anyone is interested

:D :D

When the slave cylinder let go on the present van I rang breakdown, gave them the co-ordinates, the name of the road, in Bradford, make and model of the van and the reg number, 2 hours later, the recovery guy ran me to als where the car was, as he couldn't see it.

I gave all the info, and he said Sorry, but I can't see an Audi A6 here. Where are you, I asked, I forgot the road name, but it was near to Meadowhall in Sheffield, I hung up, rang breakdown, and asked to speak to a supervisor.

So I was sitting down ... they will repair it but only if it gets what's needed.
Big list...complete clutch including bit on the pedal.remove front to fit new radiator as its got a small hole in it.( I did notice the leak,) new gear linkage cables as they ain't good .plus all the bits incurred .
€2966. Just over £2500
They have to take the cables and linkages off and won't reuse as they are knackered. 1 of them was €300.
Main dealer eh! Though it ain't that bad.
They are ordering the parts..
I'm off for a drink

Sounds to me like they are a good mechanical practice these cables once removed can pop off after refitted think it's good engineering practice ,if they popped off when you were on way home I bet you would. Be slagging them off ,good on em and I think you may have landed lucky with them
Hope all goes well for you

Did they say what is actually wrong with it?
Slave cylinder.. though I wasn't going to not put a clutch in it while the gearbox was out...
I ran over a lump of wood day before pedal went down (didn't see it) and the rad leak might have been the outcome of that as the water level was between min and max.tiny hole close to seam on bottom corner
Google translate worked well until their receptionist came in ....what a bonus as she spoke English. She thanked me for letting her practice it....I didn't need thanking I can tell you.

It's in a very full large workshop....
