Children unsecured in rear of motorhomes

You could get 3 points for letting any one travel in your van without belts on.

Has the law changed? I thought for passengers 14yo up, it's their responsibilty to belt up where a belt is available, not the driver's.

Genuine question, having lived abroad for much of my adult life am not always up on these things.

Interesting thread.

Correct

“The law requires that drivers and passengers aged 14 and over in cars, vans and other commercial vehicles must wear a seatbelt, if available. As a driver you are responsible for ensuring that anyone under the age of 14 wears a seat belt or uses an appropriate child restraint as required by law.”

I feel we can get drawn into legal debates here which will certainly determine if what you are doing is legal or not. But my initial point was more concerned with the safety of children whilst being transported in Motorhomes.
After the accident and loss of the grandchild you may be able to stand in front of a judge and justify your actions legally, but would you ever be able to look in a mirror again, would your son or daughter ever speak to you again, could you live on with the knowledge that your arrogance and stupidity resulted in the loss of your grandchild. And remember the accident might have been someone else’s fault, but you failed to make sure your child was properly secured in your Motorhome.

I agree with you , just because the law says we can do something or not doesn't necessarily make it morally right

The 14 year old law is a good one in some ways, For clarity 14 or not no belt no ride in my world. However it gives young adults the first opportunity to start acting responsibly which from thereon in their lives adult = Responsibility

I once carried a man who would not wear a seatbelt because he thought they were unlucky.

I allowed him into the front seat, I don’t allow anyone in the back to do so.

His argument was he had been involved in two road accidents and each time he was wearing a seatbelt.
His logic dictated that the wearing of the seatbelt had brought him bad luck.

I tried to explain to him that due to wearing the seatbelt he had suffered no serious injury, but he simply could not grasp my logic. To this day this guy refuses to wear a seatbelt.
