Check your tyres....

I'll pass your thoughts on to my other half....
As she was holding the wheel whilst I took the picture...
And Nope not retreads...

As for spending more on looks than tyres...
As I said in my original post... I had the fronts replaced just before we left AND had the tyre place (a main brand NOT some back street outfit) that I've used for years including for race tyres AND my mates 7 second drag car cast their eyes over the rears...
(they removed the rears to inspect and pronounced fine.... Again as I said in the original post WITH the caveat that he couldn't x Ray them)
Frankly IF they had had 4 tyres in stock I'd have likely had all 4 replaced just for peace of mind...
BUT they only had the 2 in stock.

Possible damage from something in the road
THOUGH I'm personally more inclined to think its age related.
Tell your other half I love her ring (oval one) 🤦‍♀️

Mistericeman… At least you didn’t miss the chippy in Tremadog so it could have been much worse. You must have just missed us as we were going opposite direction home to North Wales as we called in the chippy in Tremadog lateish Sunday.
Best chippy for miles around

Too true.... Its ALWAYS on our visits over that way (long time visitor to Shell island since being born in 1966)
The fish and chips is to die for...spicey Breaded fish.

2 lovely weeks at Llech campsite at Ynys this time with mixed bag weather...
BUT wild weather often means epic sunsets over that way ;-)

Mistericeman… when we are visiting Morfa Dyffryn beach we usual stay about a mile south of Shell island at Pen Tre Mawr Farm (also known simply as Dennis’s field). It’s next door to Dyffryn Seaside Estate. This year for two adults in motorhome/campervan it was £12.00 per night, less if going solo. Facilities are simpler than Shell Island though so if comparing prices it’s not comparing like with like. Only motorhomes and tents allowed… no caravans and no electric hookups.

Cheers ill have a looksy at that... Lech was dearer at £20 BUT facilities were lovely and clean....

Keep meaning to try Glan Y gors CS at llanddanwg... Looks nice with, access to the beach....

Love all that bit of coast.... Borth golf club and Towyn headland and Nant Y moch (inland Reservoir BUT always gorgeously deserted lol)

Luckily for us we were on an aire when our tyre went down. We went straight to a Spanish garage who found bad wear ( down to the wire ) on both inside walls of our back tyres. We were shocked and the next journey which was a long one could have been a disaster. We discussed this for ages but years on it’s not happened again ?
Assumption is it was the tyres and had we been in the Uk they would have been returned to supplier.

Can you show me the bit in the testers manual where it mentions perishing/cracking...

Because I can't see any mention apart from cuts/damage or tread lifting.
Is not a cut a crack, is not perishing also damage.
A dilemma due to interpretation of the English language.
For me, as it seems you also are into racing, it is down to experience and exposure to real life tyre use.
I have had a lot of exposure with vehicles in my life;
tractors, cars, stock cars, vans, motorbikes, minibus, trailers, coach, lorry, bicycles and have probably taken them to places that many others would shy away from.
Take care and enjoy the day.
I guess your not used to my humour also.

I had my MOT recently with one advisory but not a fail;

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Offside Front Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

It was actually a serious question...

See that's WHY I asked the question....

I've had advisories before regarding cracking/perishing BUT I can't now find "cracking/perishing" in the testers manual...
Only mentions cuts that I can see...

Academic though as mine weren't visibly cracked/perished...

However I'm still pretty convinced the damage was age related.

Given the OP's experience what would you do ..........

Our van is on its original Michelin tyres, one of which has had a puncture repair, they've done just over 30k miles and are coming up to 8 years old with even wear and about 4-5 mm of tread, visually fine!!

Bottom line tyres keep us on the road, they are possibly the most important part of any vehicle. Being a total coward, and someone who has sadly witnessed what can happen many times in serous road accidents, I tend to air on the side of safety.

But then peoples personal finances obviously play a part here, replacing tyres that have plenty of tread and appear fine is counter intuitive if your finances are tight. Sadly due to the current financial situation, I am sure the incidence of road accidents will increase due to more worn and poorer quality cheaper tyres being on the road.

One of the first things I did when I got my new-to-me Motorhome was change the tyres.
They had plenty of tread on and were not that old, but there were three different brands and I much prefer to keep all 4 corners the same, and use a premium brand as they *should* be the best.
