Good morning all,
We are new to motorhoming, a little dream I’ve had since I was a teenager and finally we saved enough to buy a Wentworth, absolutely love it!
We are currently trying our very first wild camping experience by Loch Ness. We are away from the loch and tourist places on a B road off a B road and it’s quiet with hardly any cars. On a lay-by from the app but we have had a couple of cars go past and honk their horn are we doing something wrong?
I’ve read a lot on the forums and I’m not sure it’s for me I feel quite nervous about upsetting people.
Thanks 🙂

How many cars passed without honking, enjoy your stay, ignore the idiots who honk.
So long as you are safely parked well off the road, with no signage stating you cannot do what you are doing you are doing nothing wrong. Obviously don’t park in a passing place. Enjoy Scotland.

Yeah don't worry about it. It seems to only happen in the UK. I think you get the odd moron who thinks its funny. Probably the same sort of person who thinks its funny to lean out of the window in the countryside and yell "Mint sauce" at sheep.

Not always possible but the secret is to find somewhere as far as possible from fast main roads and hidden if possible. If you can be seen from say 100 metres away your are a target for the moronic beepers.

The coppers once beeped at us parked up alongside Wast Water in the Lake District. Two cop cars, no idea why they were driving along there around midnight. Maybe they were being friendly but I suspect as there were two of them they got on their radios and decided it would be funny. If you see a couple of police cars in the lake district with the rozzers leaning out the windows shouting "Mint Sauce" at sheep its probably them.

Thanks very much for your replies, we are definitely in responsible place and it was I car last night and two this morning. My hubby tells me not to worry and ignore them but I wanted to check. What a fab community I’m so glad I joined! Thank you so much 😊

You did the right thing by joining as a full member.

I remember when I was new to all of this and I have had endless help on here. Using the POI's should easily save the cost of membership in no time as well as the available discounts if you ever need them.

Saw them in a boat on Windermere eating Haribos sweets the other day !

It`s all fine and well saying that Bill but after being woken up for the umpteenth time by these dickheads it gets " slightly annoying " as they say.

Our worst experience of this was in a layby set well back off the A832 to Rosemarkie.

Were those the lake cops who think they are in Bay Watch or something or were they just having an afternoon jolly on the hire boats? 😂
Do they look like this.

You'll get used to it . If you park near a university there will be at least one student who will think it good fun to knock on the window.
The more experience you get the less these things will bother you

You’ve made 2 assumptions there Rob.

1. That I only know one bloke from Bedfordshire
2. That I consider you as a mate.

Obviously it’s not impossible that your right mind 😉

It was just a general "Oi" Kev on behalf of the people of Bedfordshire.

I am of course from Leicestershire myself. 😁
