At long last - a fairer booking system (link below). Looks like it may not take effect fully until 2023 season?

Well at long last. The CCC already have a deposit system and prepayment system.
Trying to get bookings for weekends is a joke, with weekends booked several months in advance.
Why it has taken so long for them to bring this in I don't understand.
Hopefully it will end folk booking and then not turning up.

Not bean to one as yet, prob never will.

Well that`s bolloxed the way we use the CAMC, time to possibly leave after 24 years membership.

Rob, can I ask what don’t you like about this new system.

It's not the new system to be honest Bill. I just feel that I'm not getting my moneys worth out of them.

A lot of sites I've been to don't even turn you down if you haven't got a card. (Both of the major clubs are the same).

My main gripe is how they do sweet FA for us. Even worse treating us with disdain.
And thats not only the club, its some of their members.
We were parked up outside New England Bay in Galloway last summer.
We had spent two nights WC on the ground right outside the campsite, but were staying on site for our last night.
Got chatting to this guy with a caravan, and those parked outside came up.
It should be banned it he said, no better than gypsies.
My reply, well I was one of those gypsies, just came in here for a good shower, and to empty the cassette before heading home.

Although CLs rarely ask for membership card,I've never been on a club site that doesn't ask for your membership number

Yes often true.

I usually use CL's or CS's although I have been on a couple of bigger sites which didn't ask.

I just binned the CAMC after 11 years of membership. The fact that they don't allow service stops to empty waste and get fresh water was my main gripe. They won't even allow members to discuss it. The reasons why I wild camp have nothing to do with being a 'free loader' (which is one of their main arguments against providing this service). Hope their new booking system works well for the members though.

I emailed them about this and was told that they are “considering it”.
They stated that their reason against it was that it may interfere with campers on site. As the years go on, and more and more of their members own vans, they may have to change their tune. But although I have no time for them, I do like some of their sites, and I feel leaving them would be cutting my nose of to spite my face. However if I was asked to leave as part as a revolt by Motorhome owners, I would do so at the drop of a hat. Without us they would be in big bother, quite frankly they don’t deserve us, and we deserve much better than them.

As soon as the coast is clear to travel without too much aggro to Europe - fingers crossed, ey? - I'll leave these shores and head over where there is way less aggro for campervans. The CAMC has never been a favourite organisation of mine.

They're also struggling to get staff in at the minute, like many other other organisations.

In the meantime I shall continue as I've always done with wild camping in the UK.

No mention of reduced prices as a member benefit of less speculative booking. Was thinking of York over the Xmas period but the fee of around £44 a night for a couple in a MH definitely put me off. I kept monitoring their booking slots for York and noticed that as we got closer to the 17th December blocks of several days being available suddenly appeared as if by magic but still the £44 a night was a downer.

I would pay a non refundable deposit if it meant prices reduced by 25% as a result. This seems to be the case when booking a hotel room online (which we went for instead) so why not for a campsite pitch?

Rowntree park no doubt. It’s their most expensive and busiest site.
We spent two nights at their Morvich site near Skye in May £18 a night.
£44 a night is daylight robbery. We are heading to the NEC for the show in February. We booked a travellodge for £58 including breakfast, and it’s only 2 miles from the NEC.
But the best deal we got was from the CCC Dunbar site. For a grass pitch with no EHU in October £11 a night.
There other site in York is actually a better site, and it’s about £30 a night. But it’s about 3 miles from the city centre, with a poor almost non existent bus service. But you can drive about 1.5 miles to the large shopping centre with free Motorhome parking and get a shuttle bus from there.
The CCC give discounts for members, and a further 10% for those over 60. Also they offer more pitches without EHU.
As for price reductions not much chance, they claim to be a non profit organisation, putting any profits back into improving facilities. I would love to see a mass exodus of Moho owners, that’s the only way they will change their attitude towards us.

N E Bay is a great spot in the old council camp site - we use it quite a bit, and I think its just jealousy from the C&MC members (we are actualy a member, but would never use a member site - just CL's)

Thanks for that Dave I did not know that.
Yes anyone thinking of booking New England bay, think about parking outside, it’s a cracking location, and there’s plenty of space. Also that part of Scotland has much to offer wild campers.
We have spent 3 nights WC then the last night in the site. It’s around £22 a night.
