Caravan & Motorhome Club New Booking System

I don't disagree with deposits if it gives people a better chance of getting on.I don't like booking in advance because we prefer to take each day as it comes.
I like Rowntree Park, but we only ever go off season.

Although CLs rarely ask for membership card,I've never been on a club site that doesn't ask for your membership number
I'm in the C&CC and not the C&MC. but having said that, I have not been asked on site for my membership card or even my number.

That would likely be a consequence of providing the number when on-line to book a pitch, but I guess it means there is nothing to stop people sharing membership numbers if they wanted?

In all my years of being in the camping and caravaning club I can only ever remember being asked for membership number twice...

That said we only use their 5 pitch sites rather than their bigger gin Palace ones.

Frankly most of the places I've stopped have been more excited about the cold hard cash that I pressed into their sticky little paws.

When we thought we had leisure battery woes in September on Arran and because we were leaving for the mainland I figured we had better join the C&MC as I envisaged we would be using a lot of CL sites. I used to be a member years ago but dropped it because we just spent all our time in Europe. Anyway we ended up away for another seven weeks mainly using CL sites and not a single one asked for my membership number! :D I was itching for someone to ask as I had shelled out fifty quid or whatever it is so in the end I booked for the first time ever onto a Club Site in the northern Lake District just so someone would ask for my membership number :D We were dreading it but actually it was ok. Dockray Meadow not far from Cockermouth. Bit like a big posh Aire. No facilities like showers etc which suited us and I think it was about £13 a night for members.

So I guess ill just have to book onto loads more CL sites in the hope that someone will eventually ask for my card. :D

The irony is, that last summer on the NE bay WC spot, the council actually empty the rubbish bins, and mow the grass on the old site, and clean the public loo daily.
Its as if its a managed site, but for free!
we actually prefer it to the adjoining CMC site, as you get more space!!

I read that some like the CLs.
Well they now average around £18 a night.
The campsite at New England Bay was cheaper than the CL at port Logan 2 miles the other side of the peninsula. We were quoted £20 a night for CL near Dunbar last October. We finished up at the CCC site in Dunbar for £11.

I had to laugh when we came across it in September on our long UK tour. I had a chat with some of the "Gypsies" that were "roughing" it outside the Club site and I think they were certainly enjoying the smugness of it all. I would have moved but we were already on a nice CL up the road and had it to ourselves so stayed put. Its a funny old place the Mull of Galloway. I couldnt decide if I liked it or not. Scenic enough but a bit like the land that time forgot.

Unfortunately they have your vehicle details on their system as well.

We went there a few years ago…before COVID, but the journey from South East Scotland took us almost a day. Could have reached the North Coast of Scotland quicker. The A75 was a nightmare….40 mph behind HGVs most of the way….not rushing back.

Not on the CCC system they don't.
I didn't think they did and so I just tried a booking to check what I thought was correct.... One of the fields is "To assist with contactless check-in, please enter the registration of the vehicle you'll be arriving with". This is entered each time you book.
So you quote the reg of the vehicle at the time. Makes perfect sense as you may change your motorhome during membership; may have more than one, or if say in the CCC, maybe you tent-camp using your car to travel in sometimes, and motorhome at others?

I am not suggesting people *should* let others use their membership, just saying the CCC system has no precautions against it as you don't show a card on arrival.

Ah, I'm in the other one.

Last time I booked one of their sites the lady on the phone said when I gave my number "ok, Renault Master PVC, reg number *******?"

When phoning up C&CC I've been asked "will you be coming in your van AB123CDE?", so they have recorded details before. IIRC this year has been slightly different, but in previous years I've been asked to show both our cards, but I think that's because we get age related discount.

I work for the C&CC as a site manager, and the Club does have your vehicle details on its system, and your home address. When you make a booking the details are on the arrivals form in reception. So you SHOULD be asked for your membership card, I’m very surprised you haven’t been!
I have had people try to use other peoples’ cards, but it’s very easy to check.
The new system for taking your fees, for example, uses your card details you pay the deposit for and “auto collects” the outstanding balance in the early hours of the date of your arrival. This is of course a voluntary thing. It was introduced for Covid when receptions were closed, but is such a good thing for the site staff, campers and system it’s been kept.
Some C&CC sites does allow motorhomes to use the facilities and not stay. It’s for members only and costs around 7-10 quid. You can stay for upto 3 hours and use showers, loos, fill up and empty water etc. Although this was suspended during Covid in 2020/21, it’s supposed to be back in 22 I think.
Just as a by the by. The rules on club sites are voted on, every year, by the membership and so site staff aren’t making these up! The members do! So please be kind to us! 😉😀

In our 20+ years with both the CAMC ( formally CC ) and the C&CC we`ve never turned up at a club site yet and not been asked for our membership cards.

CL`s and CS`s are quite lax about membership cards but every club site we`ve ever visited have been strict about this and rightly so.
