Caravan and Motorhome club website

Every one of you should be worried about your details being at risk by hackers. It is not juust the C&MC that has been breached. You might want to read what is in my link and start taking measures to keep yourselves safe online.

I think social media is mostly to blame, the personal info people put out there is astonishing. I do have a facebook page but I use a Chinese name and location, not on any other sites for the reasons you mention.

I used to post motorhome trip photos and stuff when we were away on FB etc years ago so family and friends could follow where we were on long trips but I never do now. Most people use their own name on FB as do I. Its pretty easy to find out all sorts about people from there. That said, all of us will have had our details leaked from a variety of places. I cant say it worries me. Just keep vigilant.

Old news, Jim.

Ransomware attacks have gone through the roof over the last 5 years or so. Many companies will keep a lid on it leaking into the "media" if at all possible, and what you see reported in the "news" is only the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately.

A pretty big, local NE firm had a major ransomware attack about 2 years ago? Not a whisper in the media (intentionally - they didn't want word getting out!). Just paid up and kept schtum. Ruined a fair few plans, both for company and staff. 🤷‍♀️ :(

Anyone who still thinks the Data Protection Act actually works needs to get a reality check ;)

Yes, I agree with most of that (maybe not the last paragrapgh) but this well drawn-out discussion isn't going to achieve anything.

Maybe not, but it's a bit of fun, it's what forums like this are all about, and it passes the time if you're bored, don't you think?

Besides, the issue of waste disposal, together with all the other maintenance requirements motorhomes/campervans needs to keep then functioning (on or off a "camp site"!) should definitely be discussed here. 🤔:)

After all, this is still a UK-based "wild camping" site for motorhomes, as far as I'm aware?! Sure someone will tell me soon enough if it's not...! ;) 😂

As for your not agreeing with "the last paragraph", it is your stance, which certainly seems to be in defence of C&MC not allowing members with motorhomer to use their facilities without staying on site. That's what triggered the "drawn-out" discussion. Guess you must be bored by now... 🤷‍♀️ 😘 🤗🤣

Yes, waste disposal does need to be covered, but maybe more effort should be put into discussing options and places where it is welcome, rather than whining about places where it isn't.

What I'm bored about is seemingly having to re-state that my stance is that the CAMC membership should be given the say on whether the service should be offered. I can't understand why that is so difficult to grasp. Seems to me that someone is deliberately being obtuse, maybe just 'for fun'?

I don’t think anyone here would object to you having your say.

Maybe as you are still a member you could ask CMC when they intend to arrange a vote for members? Only vote I remember for CMC or CCC has been for electing people at the AGM. I don’t get involved with the inner workings though so there could be votes that I have missed 👍

The large amount of breaches were only found in December.

As a member of the Malwarebytes app I have been able to check my email addresses and so far they are OK. I will still be changing my passwords on sensitive sites though. I have an email address which I know has been breached, I never use it now but keep it as a receptacle for spam and phishing attempts. I also use 2 step identification to see my emails which helps a bit.
