Campsite Owners Opinion

Also the depreciation on on statics is heavy.
You may pay £80,000 for a new static and only be offered £40-50,000 a year later.

And on many sites you will be on a time limit as to When you have to change your van AND a lot will only let you buy/dispose of your vans, through them....

Frankly it's a mugs game.... An expensive one at that.

Just posted in another thread about my dentist's receptionist.

They normally go to Lanzarote for a fortnight with their 2 kids, who are 8 and 11.

She doesn't really fancy a caravan holiday, but they have booked onto a Scottish site for 2 weeks in August instead - I'm assuming statics - as their Lanzarote holiday has been postponed twice and she can't see it happening now.

Didn't get a chance to ask her all the details, but assumed the Scottish site must be cheaper as they'd fancied Cornwall as first choice (in a static) but couldn't afford it as the site owners wanted £1,200 for the week. That's £171 per day. She reckoned it was expensive. I wouldn't know as never paid to stay on a caravan park, only at the odd CMC site in the moho, and then only once in a blue moon and only for 1 or 2 nights. 🤷‍♀️

She was maybe comparing it to a package holiday to Lanzarote - again I wouldn't know what that would normally cost either 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️

When we bought our current van we considered hiring for a week from catterick caravans. They wanted £200 a night, it’s now £250 a night. Our van is only really suitable for two, it is a four berth, but at 6m it’s not a true four berth in my opinion.

Sorry, Bill, not quite with you?
What were you thinking of hiring, a van or a caravan?
And the £200 per night was for staying where and in what...?

You will be aware that the CCC run a scheme were for £7.20 members get three hours access.

The scheme was only available on selected CCC club sites.
It was withdrawn last year because of CV.

No news on reinstatement.

Yes I posted the sites on here a couple of weeks ago heres the link with available sites for each region. Hopefully they will reinstate them this summer.

All this talk of expencive sites . makes me wonder what hotels are going to charge ???

Molly I booked the Birmingham airport travel lodge for £59, then that was reduced to £51 due to the vat reduction. And if we can’t get to the caravan and Motorhome show I can cancel and get a refund. Just the room no breakfast.

Our own van Marie, to try it out first

So that was £200 per night to try out one of their vans (for possibly up to a week) with the aim of purchase at the end if you liked it?

'scuse me for being thick, my chemo brain is acting up today and I'm a bit slow! 🤪

I don't think that's a bad price for staying in Birmingham.....

Not every day you get paid £50 odd quid for visiting a place...

Mind you I suppose they have to do something to lure people to visit ;-)

Slight deviation, but I was listening to a local radio station were some one was bemoaning the fact that they could not use their static caravan, but were not being offered any reduction of fees or refund.
What shocked me was they pay £2600 per year in site and associated fees. Makes motorhoming almost cheap. It certainly made me think that the yearly depreciation of my vans value is acceptable. Or to look at it another way, you could get a decent few nights on sites for that, irrespective of price gouging or not.

Davy
£2600 is actually quite cheap for a static site. Most are upwards of £4000 and some only for eight months others up to ten and half months open.

Just wait until the jobsworths get there hands on this one....

<<Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill 2019-21: Background
Research Briefing
Published Friday, 12 March, 2021

Provisions that commence two months after Royal Assent

Part 4, Unauthorised encampments
Clauses 61 to 63 (unauthorised encampments)

Amends the existing police powers associated with unauthorised encampments to lower the threshold at which they can be used. Amendments would also allow the police to remove unauthorised encampments on (or partly on) highways and prohibit unauthorised encampments moved from a site from returning within twelve months.>>

Just one van on private or highway land without permission will be the threshold for criminal trespass offence. Don’t move when told without good reason...big fines and possible confiscation of vehicle. Intended to give police power to move travellers but what’s the betting bureaucratic creep will see it applied to motorhome Wildcamping before long.

I can’t wait to get back to Europe.

At one time Marie, they used to do 'try before you bye' schemes, whereby you could rent a Motorhome for a week at the going rate but the cost would be refunded if you went ahead with the purchase.

Not sure if that's what Bill did though?

So if you have the potential of being moved on, you cannot have a drink with your evening meal or they'll nick you for drinking and driving!
