Campsite Owners Opinion

I hope so too, but I'm a cynic!

Your no cynic Rob. You just have concerns about what’s going on in our pastime.
Most of us have the same concerns, but we don’t all agree on what to do.
I just don’t think sitting back and waiting to see what unfolds, whilst more and more vans are registered every year, and more barriers and signage bourne mainly from bias, lack of knowledge about us, and laziness are erected.

I don’t care I’ll stay anywhere camp site aire car park lay-bys Driveways meets fields In the middle of nowhere. I’m not fussy whatever is available wherever I am at that time I don’t let it bother me I’m just glad when I get out in the van. Don’t want to spoil the enjoyment I get out of it by over thinking it.

Pretty much the same here Wully. We use sites, pois both rural and urban.
There are some places were we would like to try but we are unable to.
We have only once wild camped outside Scotland, but with hindsight we could have wild camped there also. But nothing beats the islands for me, I just love getting the ferry and arriving on an island, something special about that.

Quite frankly if you can legally park there, and there are no problems it’s none of his business. But if he is sensible as others have said it’s a business opportunity. I would happily pay a reasonable charge to empty the cassette, and replenish our water. We were at the C&MC site at New England bay in Galloway last summer. There were several vans parked outside the entrance. I got chatting to a couple who spend two nights in the site when they go there for the week. The place was spotless, and there was no issues there. My worry here is he may try to put pressure on the local council to put up parking restrictions, or if it’s private land he may contact the landowners.
and at the end of it. he will be at the top of his boot, be nice i say be nice. if not move on,they dont need you. peace and love.ok pj

From what I witnessed last year up there their main issue was folk in tents. I witnessed some poor behaviour with rubbish left (including the tent) fires lit, and god knows what they did for the toilet, the mind boggles at the thought. And further down the north bank of Loch Tay was like a bomb site with rubbish strewn everywhere.

Ok so we are in a new Wardens Job and have just found the lay-by right next to the site, so it is on WC and when we chatted to boss about it he said nobody will know !!! Oops but they do ;)
Carrying on talking about WC and aires he also said that’s not good for campsite business !!!
Do I try to explain how well it works in Europe ?
Lots of

I think as I am new I will wait and gently hint how many WC there are, but I think here on a tranquil site it is a no no as people have paid for peace and quiet ... where we where before if anyone asked we let them empty fill and shower for free.

Among my emails this morning was one from Practical Motorhome magazine. In it was a story of a 5 day trip by 2 people in one motorhome to Northumberland. They stayed at 2 Sites in Autumn 2020.

Waren Mills, Bamburgh £49.22 + £4.40 for a dog

Springhill Farm, Seahouses £32

Get used to these prices people. :(

My motorhoming days will be over with prices like those. :(

Slight deviation, but I was listening to a local radio station were some one was bemoaning the fact that they could not use their static caravan, but were not being offered any reduction of fees or refund.
What shocked me was they pay £2600 per year in site and associated fees. Makes motorhoming almost cheap. It certainly made me think that the yearly depreciation of my vans value is acceptable. Or to look at it another way, you could get a decent few nights on sites for that, irrespective of price gouging or not.

Also the depreciation on on statics is heavy.
You may pay £80,000 for a new static and only be offered £40-50,000 a year later.
