In France, I think I'm right in saying, the disabled parking places have something on them that says "If you want to take this place, you can take my disability as well!" or words to that effect. . . .

"I believe the majority of Disabled people get a fair amount of money in allowances etc from the state" What planet are you living on mate :D

Do you know something we don'r know? Please let on as I could do with a bit more. I am fed up with having to go back to my Regiment begging, everytime I want something that able bodied people have as the norm and take for granted.
Also things that should be issued on the NHS like my powerchair, £4800 paid for by my mates in the Regiment. My riser chair and bed nearly £2000, paid for by The Royal British Legion. My small denture to replace the teeth taken out by an Arab bomb, £480 paid for the Army benevolent Fund.
Other things include My daughter not being able to go to college for the next two years because we cant afford the £3000 fee.
I like all the ex service cripples. do not like to go cap in hand every time we want something that should be ours by right. and the pittance we get from the government is exactly that, A pittance.
This is off thread but i have to say it. There should be NO Help for Heroes and other charities. Everything we need after being invalided out should be provided by the tax payer through central government. But of coarse that would mean the monied people would have to contribute wereas they dont at this present time. Most money donated to these charieties comes from the low wage earner and ex servicemen.

I have liver & kidney problem, heart problem, Sleep Apnoea, recently suffered a minor stroke, spine damage, unstable knee, different length legs (have to wear built up shoe), suffer from mental health issues and have severe breathing difficulties
I can't walk very far and use a stick. Recently my health has got worse (after the stroke) so now use a mobility buggy.
All I get is a Blue Badge as I don't claim DLA or Mobility. I have had a badge now for probably 15 years. I was born disabled but it was only when my mobility deteriated to the point where a friend, Police Sergeant, lectured me about applying for a badge after seeing me struggle.
I would gladly give up my Blue badge if my health was better but in the mean time I'll continue to use what I am entitled. If council charges for car parking then people with Blue badges will simply park on double yellow lines - which they can do for 3 hours as long as they follow the appropriate guidelines.

I know of a widow, own home, just had a hip replacement operation, and can hardly walk. She has just had a stair lift fitted, her bathroom converted to a wet room with shower, she gets three home help ladies call in daily, has a disabled badge for her sons car and didn't have to pay one penny for all this, No Benefits ??????

no your supposed to sit in your home, just being grateful your still alive................................................

i mean, you only fought for your country didnt you. not like you mugged someone and was sent on day trips to fun fairs.

i came face to face with a squaddie a month ago, just back from serving out there, he was a right mess (and drunk...) he had no one to turn too. i mean, once your a squaddie your tough and dont need to turn to anyone for help, because it is (or was) seen as being weak asking for help.

i would get everything i need if i did some criminal act and sent to prison, life is pretty easy in there.......but i choose not too.

why not claim DLA?

Petty jealous

Has anyone thought putting these people into care homes and alike cost thousands, puts you taxes up appallingly, vast amount of money is saved by keeping these people in their homes. This petty jealous nature of some is so short sighted!

May I suggest you Google Disability Benefits as I just have you may be pleasantly surprised, many thanks for your insult.

i wont be pleasently surprised, dont belive everything google tells you. i am well intouch with CAB people who help the disabled, and i to help disabled people in my area. and i can tell you its hard to get, turned down for silly reasons and often so much hassle it causes people depression and so they stop applying. my council say they have no money to change my house to make it easier for me and nowhere else to move me too.

im now back on my bed, laid down in agony, as a couple of hours ago i washed a couple of pots and cutlery. but been like that for many years. i do what i can. but can you imagine how i feel needing a pee bottle, as i cant get up and down the stairs 4 times a night, no much self repsect in that, all cos i take so many meds i need constant fluids.

all im saying is dont belive all you hear about financial handouts 'disabled' people can get....yes i know many people who cheat and claim for everything, even stuff they have no right too. but the people i see are generally honest and struggling. yes i get winter heating allowance, if its under a certain temp, buy my condition is made worse by damp, so come autumn all the way through to spring i will be suffering even more, so need more heating.....

yes i do get a extra amount of money a week, but without it i couldnt even struggle by as i do now. i dont want a big flat screen tv, i dont want free forgien holidays, i dont even want people to feel sorry for me.....i just dont want people to think i get soooo money given to me that i can wipe my backside with it.

And if your wondering where i got the money for my campervan from, to get it mot'd and taxed last week, i sold a lot of my collection of plastic model kits....for next to nothing. (i started making model planes when i broke my back 16 year ago, as i couldnt do nagg all else).

sorry i called you a idiot, i just get fed up of people thinking people with disiablities get big hand outs from the government.........

Thanks for this tip...if only i had known this 15 years ago it would have saved me years of anguish.

I admit I was silly and used up all my savings, then sold my flat, filled in numerous forms, attended numerous interviews at DSS offices, attended several appointments with (so called) independant doctors so they could question me and prod me.

I also enjoy attending hospital twice a week for treatment, sitting in the local pharmacy chatting to junkies, and not being able to got on holiday abroad as medication needs to be refrigerated which restricts my range, duration. As my medication supress' my immune system my consultant recommends that I stear clear of hospitals, doctors surgeries, sick people and places such as shopping centres etc, and not to eat food from sources I dont know well.

I am currently trying to convert my 10 year old Renault Master which has disabled access so I can use it for weekends away with my faithfull labrador (hence joining this forum). I have found lots of useful information on this site and the majority of members appear to be well informed and helpful.

However, there is the odd one that isint.

Ah, but your disabled, so should be in the house all the time, not out in the wild having fun with a campervan, esp a old one....and with all the money the government throws at you, you could have a 5* hotel and even a chaufer!!!!

oh and finally, you shouldnt have a dog....cos your disabled and not well, its not fair to the dog, i mean regular walks and exercise, cant be much fun for the dog!!!

why not claim DLA?

My GP told me to claim so I filled in all the forms years ago. Had a DSS medical and their doctor again said I forfilled the requirement. However I didn't fill the form in correctly (I worked on my best days rather than worse or average) so it got turned down. I appealed and they said nothing changed from original application so next option was to start process all over again with new claim.
Anyone who has applied it will tell you how stressful it can be and I simply can't face going though it again. I believe this is very common that people, like me, just give up trying.

Then she MUST need these to provide her with some quality of life Now can you tell us what her life would be like without these & don;t forget to tell us the pain she probably suffers each day. As for the insult you welcome otherwise stop showing your ignorance of these matters Google beneifits I ask you

Well well well .I am merely trying to point out that Disabled people can in fact get benefits and help for their day to dayliving requirements contrary to what some are saying and good luck to them but I still don't see why free parking should be one of these benefits, I won't respond any more to you as you appear to be getting a bit wound up. best wishes Malc.

i know how hard, frustrating it is....even in the last 8 months where i have got worse, the CAB said dont try and get more, which i should be able to get, as the DLA are doing everything they can to get people off or knock the to a lower level

go and see the CAB, its well worth it!

Hopefully, most physically disabled people already know benefits are available although I have come across people with learning dificulties who did not.

Short answer to the free parking question; Because we have a NHS in this country it saves hard working tax payers money.

They get free parking because being disabled they HAVE to use a vehicle whereas YOU don't so can avoid parking charges if you wish. Just what don't you understand. As for the 'benefits' do you really think being provided with some quality of life is a benefit in the sense you mean

if they need a wet room and a stair lift something tells me they are in considrerble pain and suffering...........so really need them, im sure they would love to be perfectly healthy, so they can run out and down stairs etc. tell you what, why not get a serious mobility injury, and see whats its like struggling....and then im sure after 5 min you would wish you could be normal and not get stigmatised by people like you. another idiot.
