Best portable power for ghds?

At only 150w unless it takes a long time to straighten your hair (this is not a concept I’m familiar with, as I just put a hat on) a simple inverter seems the obvious choice.

Also depends on what else you will use it for.

Just had a quick look and the GHD only uses about 150W so if just for that you would only need a relatively small powerbank to get a few uses. Have you considered a small inverter which would be a fraction of the cost?
Rob, That the 150W figure is not accurate and is an 'average, when hot' consumption figure. They use what's called a PTC thermistor heating element which basically means that the hotter they get the less they consume, this regulates the temperature accurately but means that when first switched on from cold they take way way more power so they heat up rapidly. If I get the chance I'll measure the start current on SWMBO's and post.

I got the figure from the Q&A section on a John Lewis site. But this chart indicates up to 100W

I see what you mean though so maybe they aren't considering the initial load?

EDIT: Or as you say, an average load

They are looking at the average consumption over a longer time period so peeps have an idea of how much juice they use and how much they cost to run.
Yes, they are not looking at the initial load which is way more than the average load. The faster they warm up the greater the initial load so the GHDs and the Dysons will probably be some of the worst offenders. It may only last 20-30 seconds but obviously the warm up load must be taken into account when sizing an inverter.

Semi curly, only straightened it once last year, and that was because a mate asked I'd straighten it for her 40th birthday.
She loved it, and I very much enjoyed her loving it, not enough to do it again though.
I might reconsider for her 60th.

GHD do an unplugged rechargeable cordless hair straightener that lasts for 20 mins and can be fully recharged in 120 minutes with a usb-c compatible device or inverter. No real need for a massive battery drain.

Isn’t this the answer with a low powered inverter connected to the leisure battery to use for charging?

Or is there a requirement for an increase in the motorhome power reservoir generally?

Another very practical and inexpensive solution.

No need for an inverter. Plenty of 12v to USB - C chargers on the market. An inverter only introduces another power demand to the circuit.

SWMBO tried a rechargeable one and she said it was nowhere near as good as her mains straighteners, She's a fussy woman (after all she married me 😂) when you think about it you can't realistically expect a small battery to give you the performance that you get from the mains. The clincher for me was I could buy an inverter for LESS than the cost of the rechargeable ones! So spent £250 on a 5kW/2.5kW inverter which we use for all of the other stuff in the van as well, toaster, kettle, microwave, induction hob plate and her hair dryer too. She's a very happy bunny now (which improves my life considerably;))

This would get my vote as the best answer. Twenty five quid! Problem solved.

I think Kerry has done a runner though maybe.

No wonder Barry, Kerry needs STRAIGHTENERS not CURLERS ! Pay attention!🤣
