Benidorm or bust.

I've never been to Benidorm, so definitely wouldn't knock it (or the opposite) until I had actually been there myself.

I'm sure it will be grand - what's not to like about escaping away to a bit of warmth and sunshine in the depths of winter?
Wish I was over there instead of watching the electric and gas metres whizz round back here! (y)

I think your right to keep an open mind Mariesnowgoose. Although we have travelled fairly extensively around Spain, and it is a wonderful Country, we do like to pop in past Benidorm when we can. We live in a very rural, almost remote village and I don’t know what the opposite of it is but Benidorm must be close. Someone once told us “there’s someone for everyone in Benidorm” and I think that’s true. There are more Spanish than any other nation, about 1 million, holiday in Benidorm every year. I once saw percentages that suggested it was roughly 40:40:20 Spanish: British: Other Europeans and I think that’s about right. Given that none of them, or almost none of them hit the British bars around the Calle Gerona/ Levante Beach Area there must be other stuff to attract them to Benidorm. Well in fact there is. Potiente Beach is probably longer than Levante Beach and is almost Brit free. The Old Town is more sedate and has a good selection of shops, bars and great Spanish restaurants including Tapas Alley. In addition, us there is some good walking in the area, and some of the best cycle training routes in Europe over the winter. Very envious Neckender!

I've never been to Benidorm, but the impression I get from visiting other 'Brittish enclaves' would be this Al Murrey sketch. 😛
Stayed in Almerimar a few years ago . Very much a 'British enclave' but there was a football match I wanted to see [I know , a man of principle] . Ended up in a bar ran [very badly] by an English couple .
Never again

Some places do have a British enclave feel , but the old town and the walk up to the crosses do give you a different perspective. We enjoy it for a few days , seeing old friends and the nighttime entertainment is generally good . Like everywhere I would say give it a try , see what you think and like everywhere move on if not for you.

The Solar Panel switched just over 1 hour ago, but is still struggling to establish itself - it has reached the giddy heights of 4w output (too small to register on the battery BMS, but it does allow the Battery SOC to creep up stealthily ...), and then drops back to zero before starting to climb again to 4w ...
The overnight 13 degrees setting on the Truma to prevent the Frost Stat from dumping the Freshwater tank contents has been triggered by the Van internal temperature coolness, so we don't have a meter whizzing round - just an outside gas gauge to show how far into the red zone it's reached ... Still, it's good to get away for Winter Sun ...

And, just for good measure, we were woken to the cool temperatures by one of the local colony if parakeets chucking twigs off the shading trees (which we don't need this month) onto the Van roof and then clattering around to retrieve them, so the notion of staying under the duvet until the temperature rises in Vilafranca (April'ish), was denied. My only consolation is that the gas and leccy money isn't going to E.on ... :ROFLMAO:. Whilst I've been typing this, the peak Solar output has roared up to 7w but still falling back to zero and starting again. When it reaches 8w, we shall have a musical scale to sing along to as the Solar rises and falls ...

We have visited Benidorm on a day trip when we were staying down the road at Villajoyosa. I'd have no problem staying there for a week or two at all. The difference between us going January/February though and being there in the summer would be startling. I'd not go in the summer but as we travel to Spain in winter every year I think we will certainly end up staying in Beni at some stage.

If anyone is going, and intending to stay at La Torreta, DON'T just follow your sat nav. If it's like ours, it will try to take you down goat tracks - keep going, and you'll find a nice big road with real tarmac, at least two lanes, and even white painted stripes down the middle.

We used to stay @ Camping Villasol for the past 6yrs in Benidorm & served us well. However earlier this year tried the new site La Media Legua only 1 mile from Villasol & Brilliant so we are booked onto La Media Legua from 2nd March 2026 for 82 nights ... Winter sun bring it on ..

Not having much joy here in Benidorm! I forgot our fire stick and echo dot speaker, so I bought new from Amazon Spain, I have an Xtrons flip down screen set it up this evening and Echo pop speaker only converses in Spanish and the bloody fire stick is all German. Some films I can alter to English but not all and for sound I’ve had to pair up with a FM setting on portable radio.

I shouldn't laugh, but hey, these things are sent to try us and it's a nice little challenge. ;)(y)

Anyway, more important than any of those other problems - have you remembered to take a smug filter with you, ey, ey?! ... 🤔🧐🤨 😉😄
