Backing up photos from an android phone to an external hard drive without a pc

If you are connecting to the RUT955 via wifi to change settings then you will lose the connection when it saves the settings, this may seem like it's rebooted 🤔 If you use a patch lead and connect hard wired then it's much better and I've never had to reboot mine when changing settings and I change from sim 1 to sim 2 and vice versa a lot ;) There are alternatives but they are all much more expensive and I wouldn't change mine unlessa reasonably price 5G one came on the market.

I use a cable whenever I can.

Greg Virgo uses another brand which when I looked was very expensive. Is it better/easier to use?

I see there are a number of Android apps from Teltonika to allow setting changes. Have you tried them?

So I gather a patch lead is a wire with an ethernet connection on one end to attach to the 955 and a usbC at the other to hard wire to a android device? Whenever we have connected the go pro or an android device to another android device by wire it has not worked to move data. We must be doing something wrong. Clearly the go pro menu has such an option to transfer pictures, but it also has a fiddly but mentally easy option to take out the sd card to a card reader to transfer so that is what we do. However an easier data transfer would be better

Concerning Greg Virgo, Lots of others also use netgear nighthawk, like gadgetJohn but it is relatively expensive, more portable but less robust looking and does not have so many port connections. It has its own battery so can be carried about , but the rut 950 or 955 seems more to my liking, especially 2nd hand off ebay as it seems well enough made be a good 2nd hand gamble.

On another point our small camper hardly seems to need an external WiFi aerial as we are hardly ever close but not in the camper. Would a rut 240 with 2 lan aerial ports but only one wifi aerial be just as good?, for us. I very much doubt we would ever have 2 contract sims in the router at the same time. Does the rut 240 act as a hub for a hard drive?
2nd hand on ebay the 240 hardly seems cheaper than the 955, but the roof aerial just for the lan side would be cheaper and simpler. I assume I could get a 955 and just fill 2 lan and one wifi port with cable/aerials. The wifi could be an internal rabbits ear? leaving one wifi and one gps empty until I saw the need?

A patch cable normally links a computer to a router etc. I prefer to use one to connect something like a RPi to the 955 as I feel it is a little more stable than WiFi.

Also when changing settings on the 955 the WiFi and ethernet go down for a short while. If your PC has been linked to another reachable WiFi signal it will join to this as the 955's WiFi restarts. You can then spend time wondering why it's impossible to get back to the 955's admin page. Using an ethernet cable stops this, in my experience.

I set up a RUT240 (MaxView) for another member just the other day here in Spain. He wanted to connect to the campsite WiFi but found the RUT240 down on sensitivity where as my 955 with external WiFi aerial could achieve a reliable connection.

What aerial do you have?

I believe it is this one LINK

The aerial and 955 give a stable setup which runs for months. Our van has a fibreglass roof, it is recommended to use a ground-plane, this is just a piece of stainless sheet with a hole in the middle for the aerial to bolt to and stuck to the vans roof. I think I have a picture somewhere.

The things I dislike are the number of times "I" seem to have to reboot it after changes in settings and with this version of firmware "Failover" doesn't work from one hotspot to another which I'm sure worked before.

Edit: New firmware version available RUT9_R_00.07.01.4
