Availability of diesel in Europe in the coming months

Japanese oil and gas vessels allowed through the Straits en route to India, and Japan working on a continuing deal with Iran ... Meanwhile, UK isn't ...

Steve

I think virtually none of our fuel comes through the straits so there isn't much point in us doing a deal with Iran. Most of it goes east I believe. As its a global commodity it affects prices everywhere though. At least thats how I understand it. Its still vital to us that its opened though because it affects us and everyone else.

I think many people don't understand how oil trading works, not only are we dependent on the open market price, this also has an effect on supplies, a significant part of UK oil is purchased on the spot market, if other countries normally buy oil from Gulf states they will now be buying it from other sources which affects our supplies. Also 12% of our oil supplies comes from Gulf states.
p.s. don't forget we still have a tanker driver shortage, so a small hiccup in deliveries can have a large affect on local availability.

It's a campsite rather when an aire, but we have stayed at Sopelana - there's a nice beach, restaurants and a supermarket all close by. If you have a dog, the vet is within walking distance and was really reasonable. It's a nice place to spend a few days.
If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay per night. Just checked their website and the off peak tariff is around €40 nightly which is on the high side compared to the €20 to €25 we are used to for Spanish campsites.

The issue of course is that there is no competition in the area and the Bilbao aire only allows 2 nights max.

We are in watch and wait mode. Its our golden wedding year and this time last year we decided to book a villa near to Nice and fly the family out for a week. All booked and paid for. We would take the van down to the villa and then we have an overnight ferry booked to Corsica, plus ferry to Sardinia for a further 10 days before heading back to mainland France. Seems forward planning to get the best prices may not have been a good idea ☹️

I just checked, it was €112 for three nights, probably including a fee for the dog. So it was quite pricey, but we probably took the hit because it ticked a lot of boxes for us, being near the vet and near the port.

What really pisses me off is that when something happens the price of fuel starts going up as soon as the first shot is fired, so to speak.

However, when the price comes back down it takes weeks if not months to come back down because the fuel was bought earlier at the higher price.

In that case the fuel should take weeks if not months to go up in the first place because it was bought earlier at the cheaper price.

Profiteering has never gone out of fashion, Graham. 🤷‍♀️🫤

I filled the van yesterday after its MOT and service for the first time since November. £1.81. Sainsburys. £117. I was expecting it to be like £180 or something so it didn't come as that big a shocker.

Tuesday morning I booked the Calais - Dunkirk ferry for 29 April. We decided there are too many known unknowns and probably always will be so may as well get on with it.

Woke up this morning to news of the ceasefire, some better news for a change, but let's see how that goes!

Filled my car up at Costco Gateshead this afternoon. Needed to stock up on other things (I try not to make unnecessary journeys and go when I have a list of other things to do at the same time).

As you know Costco only sell premium diesel. Currently £1.83 and not too busy. No long queues snaking back, which there can often be depending which day of the week you go. Wednesday at 1pm is obviously a quiet time 🤷‍♀️ (y)

Diesel seems to be around the £1.89 - £1.93 mark round here. That's just regular diesel though.

Are they still fighting at Dunkirk.
