I work in FE, which is run as a private entity, but is does receive public funding, too. 75% of my time is spend delivering to employed students, 25% generating commercial income, and yes, we are awash with useless managers and, folk at the chalk face who would not be missed.
Speaking about Scottish Police Force, since merge to Police Scotland, service is appalling.
Councils: Certainly my local one could do with a big shake up, problem is, once an employee is in the system, it is hard to get rid of the useless ones, as those with the real local power, are not elected officials.
NHS: Of course not all front line workers are hopeless, I can tell you, from my own personal and recent experiences (still on-going) there are many employed at all levels who should not be there. They are liabilities and, there is no accountability within the NHS. Look at past whistle blowers, see what has happened to some, who have lost their job for caring.
As with my initial post, many public paid services are poor value for money.
Edit: some words from an ordinary taxpaying punter about Scottish health Service.
"The Scottish Health Board is in SO much trouble - poor staffing ability, poor management, poor supervision all contribute to the problem and the overpaid useless managers must be weeded out. Having said that - having visited hospitals quite a lot recently the amount of gaggling nurses and attendants is worrying and I have never seen so many staff wandering about with cups of tea in their hands. What happened to the 'morning break' lunch and 'afternoon break ? is that a thing of the past ? I certainly don't feel confident walking into a hospital these days."
