How do you get the promo code for the discount? And is it still 15%?
Thanks PJ

7.5% only usable online and not applicable to lithium. It’s listed under discounts.

Cheers

Sorry, I thought it was 15%, I can get 10% at Halfords.
I am talking about normal leisure batteries.
The ones I have now are two 110's had them on for 5yrs.. I think only one of them is up the creak however, it is better to replace two.
At the moment we can squeeze two nights out of them.
Does any one have any ideas on where to buy cheaper batteries would be very welcome.
It keeps about cycles however, I don't ride a bike!!

Go for lead carbon. (y)
Are they better than sticking two needles in an apple?

Veering wildly away from the benefits of Lithium, last year I renovated an old 1981 caravan and fitted it with a £10 battery from a scrap yard. I went away in it for a few days and nights, and the battery didn't run down at all. I then sold the caravan so I don't know how long that battery would have lasted. It was a small one. It wouldn't be a waste of money doing an experiment with a scrap yard battery to see how long it lasts. They are scrapping surprisingly new-ish cars now because the costs of repairing computerised cars is uneconomic. Unless you understand computerised cars and fix it yourself in which case it is either £60 for a new sensor, or £0 cleaning a MAF sensor, as I did yesterday to get rid of an engine warning light :giggle:

10% is not always better than 7.5% though is it if the starting price is higher.

PS. Cleaning the MAF sensor is a pretty standard thing that is needed periodically. You can get a cleaning spray designed for the purpose which is a better idea than old engine oil as the sensors can be a little delicate.

I cleaned the MAF sensor with brake cleaner spray. I wouldn't dream of trying to clean something with old engine oil! Anyway it's interesting that you say it should be done periodically. I have heard that the AdBlu sensor (?after the cat?) also tends to get clogged and needs cleaning. I wonder if the garage monkey mechanics do that in an annual service? I doubt it.
We have drifted off the topic somewhat but I would like to hear some expert witness discussion on whether we should keep our Adblu tanks full or low over the winter if we are not using our campers.

At the last service my trusted local indy sold me a bottle of adblue additive which, purportedly, stops the adblue crystallising. OK, it was a blatant bit of upselling which made me chuckle but, having had a replacement adblue computer and other bits fitted previously, under warranty, by the main dealer*, I went for it. I've since learnt that crystallisation is a 'thing'; there are plenty of references on t'internet.
I use my van in Winter but I guess what I would do in your scenario, gasgas, is chuck in some of this additive, go for a good run to suck it through the system and sleep easy.

(* long story, don't ask)

Something else that can benefit from a periodic clean on a diesel engine is the EGR Valve. That can get very clogged with oily debris.
this is my 'before' and 'after' on the T4

(I'm not sure WHY I cleaned it though as I took it out to blank it, not to clean and refit it! Probably same reason that I vacuum the void underneath a floorboard before replacing it )

From batteries to MAF sensor in 5 posts must be a record:cool:

I have been a member since 2011, I joined the site because of the knowledge base. Normally someone always has ideas of how to help you out.
However, this post that I have started (I do not post many) has astounded me. It was purely for discounts and ideas about batteries. I never knew that batteries have sensors and that they have to be cleaned. Thank you for all the information.

Are old Li-ion batteries recycled? I've an ols 36v 15 ah battery that's lost its mojo so replaced it, what to do with the old one?
