Alpha 4G Camp Pro antenna.

I finally got the sim holder glued and eventually (It really is awkward) got it in although it once again lost my sim deep inside the slot but eventually I got it in properly. So its a step forward as the antenna software now recognises it as a vodafone sim but will it connect to the internet? Nope.

Ive tried all sorts but even when you change the drop down box APN to wap.vodafone.co.uk it doesnt save the settings and just reverts to Wap. Ive emailed them again in Taiwan and they are now on about getting R&D to produce some firmware update for me. WTF :( Not sure what the dial number field is at the bottom. I could put something in there but cant find anything online as to what for Vodafone.

This is basically the only details you can put in. My advice so far as regards Alpha gear is dont buy it.

That looks so similar to the Solwise product/software I sorted out for a fellow motorhomer. I think there is a likelihood that the device you have is sold by a number of companies that just stick their label on it.

Looking at the LINK I remember using some Windoze software shown on page 11.

All this was a couple of years ago and I'm not a Microshite user personally so it would have been on the owners PC.

Of course I may be wrong.

Now you know why it was given away If something seems to good to be true it usually is

No to be fair it was a friend who gave me it. She bought it in error thinking it was the wifi extender model. Im wondering if its my pin code thats confusing it. I am going to try and remove the pin code off my phone later (Which apparently is not that straight forward). It really shouldn't be that difficult this.

I found this from the one I set up which appears to have been on the o2 network. Perhaps this will help.
I notice that even though it was purchased from Solwise it says CampPro2.

Thanks for going to all that trouble. I think the problem is that you change the APN from just wap to wap.vodafone.co.uk but it does not save. Maybe it does require a firmware upgrade. Useful to know they are using the same software and as you say same hardware by the sound of it. That gives me more scope for support and googling options. Ive removed the pin code, lock screen off my phone in case its that but I dont think it is. Even that took me an hour to figure out as you have to blow away all the credentials deep in settings.

@barryd
What about your "PAP/CHAP username" ?

What SIM are you using in the antenna? Can you give an image of the package it came in? I think the APN can be different for different bundles from the same provider.

The instance I sorted the user had a working setup and then changed provider and expected it to work or, couldn't understand why it didn't work.

Sorry missed your reply. I am just using the sim out of my Vodafone contract mobile. It sees it in the config as it comes up as Vodafone. From what I can gather online the Pap user name and password should just be wap and wap. I removed the pin off my phone but its made no difference testing it again today. You simply cant change any settings. I go into the set up screen and its set up like this below

after-changes-not-saved-reverts-back.jpg

So I make what I think are the right changes which is selecting the drop down box for wap.vodafone.co.uk, removing the option for a pin and then hit the finish button.

You then get this screen so I disconnect the wifi in Windows and reconnect but in the settings its just defaulted back to that first screen above. It does not save any changes.

Its a bit of a mystery. I am sat in the van right now (connected at the moment to home BT wifi) just trying anything and everything.

Feck i bought a wifi camera for the garage and after going through pills of sh-t like stand on you head, spin on left foot and do the tango it was switched of, better things to do in life.

Ive been in IT since the 80s Trev. You would think if anyone could get this bloody thing working I could but it has me stumped.

I tried contacting vodafone. Waste of time so Ive posted on their forum just in case there could be something blocking this sim in that device but I think there is something up with my device or the software on it.

You mention Windows. If I remember correctly you can plug the USB Antenna direct into a Windows PC, you don't have the frustration of the router then.

EDIT:
Just found this:

Thanks. I Cant see how it would work without the router though just plugged into a laptop. You would still need to put in passwords etc to access the Vodafone network and the whole point is it creates a hotspot in the van.

Someone in the Vodafone thread has given me a dial number to try but if I cant get the blooming software interface to save any changes then Im wasting my time.

I might try searching the Solwise info or see of there is a forum as you pointed out they use the same kit and software.

Have you tried plugging it into a Windows PC?

One of the links shows some Windows software which may be on the setup disc, if I remember correctly. The PC I used is at home, if I remember i'll have a look tomorrow.

The router could be just another level of complication you don't need.

No drivers required under linux, just plug and play with almost everything, windows is blind and deaf, head down now.

It might be possible. I guess the laptop (W10 Pro) will see it as a dongle and may automatically sort it out but Im sure you will need to enter the wap details somewhere. I found this. Its for a dongle which effectively is what this is.

I remember years ago using he Vodafone dongle with a sim but you had to install the software. Must be fifteen years ago though.

I think Windoze has the driver built in, from memory you need to install the software to setup the SIM (shown in the links I posted). Look on the Alfa site Downloads for the .exe .

You will soon learn the router isn't the best around so for now it may be easier to get it working on your PC.

Im wondering if this particular model is only set to work with one sim provider as there is one here that apparently only works with T Mobile.

Will explore bypassing the router

The downloads site at Alpha is less than helpful. No explanations as to what any of them do.

I downloaded this one https://files.alfa.com.tw/?dir=[6] Outdoor USB CPE/Tube-UAC2/Windows but its just a setup file. No readme or anything so God knows what it does?

I have now emailed Rokland in the states who seem to be the ones making the Alfa videos

That kit definitely looks like rebadged Solwise gear. Solwise aren’t that far from you Barry they are in Hull not far from Hessle foreshore. They are very helpful, or have been when I have needed them. Give them a call or email and see what they say
