A friend is gifting me one of these bought in error. Its the 4g version.

Anyone got one? It might just be ideal for this years trip as last year we were often in areas where there was very little or no signal on our Vodafone mobiles. What I was wondering was to save getting a PAYG sim could I just shove my current on contract vodafone sim in it? I can always use Mrs D's phone for calls but then ill have the hassle of swapping it over when I actually need my phone on days where we go off and do different things. EE do various sim packs which they state includes data roll over but they are also just 30 days so how does that work? Do you have to cough up the next month and just have the roll over data added or will a single pack last until its run out? I suspect the former sadly.

I am just thinking of signing up for one of these. https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-as-you-go-phones

Trouble is I tired an EE sim here a few weeks back just as a test and after being told by BT it would have a good signal there was absolutely none but EE is supposed to have the best signal in some of the places we may travel to this year. Does anyone use their PAYG sim packs? Any good?

You could also check out Scancom who sell pre paid data sims on EE. Various options available, you just pay a one off amount for so much data for a given number of months and then the sim dies. I had one and it was fine.
Alternatively, 1p mobile, also EE, is very flexible. You can buy a 30 day bundle and, unlike most other operators, if you use all the data before the 30 days you can buy another bundle immediately. I have one in my phone with no problems.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I presume though with the EE bundles if you dont use all the data you cannot use it after the 30 days but it will roll over onto another 30 day bundle?

Blimey! This seem too good to be true. Just trying to establish if I buy one now but dont use it until May / June if it will still be valid

EDIT: I think not. says Term: now to 28.03.2022 so presumably you have to use it all before 28 March which is 5 days time?

I looked at this but it seems not to allow roaming so not brilliant for me.

They offer other deals with different data amounts and longer dates but, if there's no roaming and you're going to 'foreign' then not for you, of course.

Ignore that link I posted earlier which is indeed too good to be true. Its only valid for use until the 28 March.

I think we will be just UK based this year so roaming wont be an issue but we will be away for months. I guess the EE 30 day sim might be an option but one other thought I had was as I am already paying for two Vodafone monthly sim contracts I could just get a 1p mobile sim, stick it in my phone, divert my main Vodafone number to that sim and then stick my Vodafone sim in the Alpha. It has 60gb a month on it which hardly gets used. This has an added advantage for calls as 1p mobile as mentioned uses EE which is the strongest provider in most of the places we will be going. Vodafone not as good signal wise but with the Alpha hopefully that will be rectified.

If you're going to 1pmobile then use this link and code. We'll both get a little 'Brucey' bonus.

Well this has all been a bit of a disaster. The Alpha 4g Camppro 2+ arrived on Monday so I just got around to giving it a go in the van. It came with three sim card holders and I tried to follow the instructions carefully on a video from the internet (USA). First problem is I broke the little plastic sim holder thats the right size for my sim just by unclipping it from the pop out plastic frame it came in. I could however fit my sim in still. It goes in but does not click home when you shove it in the bottom of the antenna so you cant push it to eject it back out again, it just pulls out. There does not appear to be any other way to shove it in though and you can see part of the metal of the sim is still poking out the bottom.

So I have failed at the first hurdle. I am hoping someone in the UK might have one of these and can tell me what I am doing wrong. There is a red light flashing on the bass of the antenna which presumably means something is not right. I can find the router via a browser and connect to that but its just saying there is no sim inserted.

Ive tried to find support in the UK for Alpha networks but I cant find any.

Any thoughts?

You asked for UK support, yours looks similar to the Solwise product. I thought they may be able to give you info on the simple task of inserting a SIM card...and more.

Ah I see. I did eventually find a contact in the states for Alpha and have emailed them but it might be worth emailing Solwise although its a bit of a cheek as its not their product. However if its the same I might be able to find more info. This came from Germany and I wondered if its a different set up but I dont see why it should be.

Can't you just super glue it back together? Or is it just a standard sim adapter?
Is the sim card fitted the right way round?

I have had a reply from Alpha. Its odd as it would appear the sim tray goes in backwards from the screen shot below with the cutaway bit facing out. However two things. Firstly the back of the tray now has a crack on it but you can still insert it but it does not click home that way, it just disappears into the unit loose. When I tried to insert it with my Vodafone mobile sim in it yesterday it left the sim behind and I had the devils job trying to retrieve it with a tiny screwdriver and its my main sim for my main mobile so I am reluctant to stuff it in again.

Might be easier to do a video later.
