Alone at Ruby Bay Elie, Fife

I'll be honest, I've never booked an aire. Just turned up. I said aire because it has a dedicated area for motorhomes and facilities to dispose of waste. How would you make the distinction between the two?
Most Aires in Scotland require pre booking, either online or by phone. This is a public car park where members of the public can park their cars, with places marked out for overnight parking. But cars can park in them during the day. Aires I have been to are only for motorhomes. Many Aires up here are run by landowners, farmers, or homeowners sometimes you’re parked up in someone’s garden, Some have all facilities, some none, others some. In places such as Cullen, and Findhorn they have ANPR barriers which only allow vehicles which have pre booked access.

Here’s the carparks where you can park overnight in Fife

Absolutely right; and the WildCamping Location App correctly shows Ruby Bay as an AC: Aire Chargeable
Yes but that depends on who posted it. This is a public carpark run by Fife coastal trust. I posted a link to their carparks on post 25. It should be changed to a carpark. On SFS it’s a carpark with facilities.

I don't think they have quite cottoned on to the French way of running Aires yet here where you just open one and leave it to the motorhomers to see how many they can cram on to a piece of tarmac or grass. :D
Most of the Aires in France are run by local councils many being free Barry, and run in a first come basis. Up here you have to pay, and they are mainly private, or run by local communities. But from what I have read and as you state Aires in France are not managed as such just a free for all. I have parked in someone’s garden with just two pitches in Portsoy. But to reiterate, where I am tonight is a public carpark run by Fife coastal trust, not an Aire.

And it’s blowing a gale here tonight.💨💨

Aires are often public car parks ? Not sure why you think it is not an aire

Its dark and late, can you not drive down to the toilet block park area, you should be in the lea there, then return back to where you are now in the morning?
It’s wild down there Terry I walked down there an hour ago and it was just wild. Even Lochore well inland is getting 50mph winds. Just need to hunker down. At least no trees here.

80mph winds so far recorded at the Outer Hebs. If you do go back out, make sure you have your name and address within you back pocket! Oh, and leave motor keys, so your missus can dive home.

I thought you were on a compressor fridge Bill?

No fun being out in that. I presume you are parked into the wind as best you can?
Yes Barry parked into the wind, been a rough night still windy till 11. But managed some sleep. Absorption fridge 11c
