Just received a blue disable badge as the wife is going through chemo, now can i park in any carpark overnight free. Just starting to plan my holidays for next year probably cornwall,or devon.

There are general rules for using the badges but otherwise you do have to check the individual car park sign as the rest seems to be down to who runs it. Typically County or Borough Council. In our part of Derbyshire you get an extra hour free in the car park after you have paid for the first, when charges apply.

It entitles you to park, but any signs saying no overnighting or similar are still the requirement.

Please note a blue badge only allows you to park free in one space so if you overlap you have to pay for the other. I have also noticed that a lot of carports in tourist areas do not allow free parking.

Not sure about free parking just be grateful that you have the blue badge as when my wife had chemo we never had a blue badge given us. Even had to pay on the days she went to have her treatment. Thought they were there to help you able to park closer to stores and so forth not sure why they should be free.

I would just assume not. Devon is more tolerant than Cornwall for overnight parking in my experience but still not that great. I just tend to use the CL sites down there and that might be your best bet. Then use the van and the badge to park up for a few hours during the day but as said check the conditions as parking with a badge is not always free but of course you can get up to three hours on a double or single yellow line. Just be considerate though where you do that and dont cause an obstruction. Also if parking on a double yellow check that the it doesnt have the two yellow little stripes every few yards as this indicates you cannot park there or opposite even with a badge.

Some council carparks allow you to park free for up to three hours, ALWAYS read the signs and check the handbook that came with the badge, ALWAYS put the correct time on your disc too, if have to park on yellow lines don't get too close to junctions, and not at all if there are lines on the curb edge, not many private carparks give free parking, I always ask the local traffic warden as they are often very good with advice for the best place to park for where you need to be, and will make a note of your reg and not ticket you, if you ever go to ROI you CANNOT park on yellow lines only in disabled parking places which are few and far between.

Anyway back to OP.
Cornwall and West Devon council carparks only give 1 hour extra in carparks for having a disabled badge, so you pay and get say three hours instead of two, also it doesn't override other conditions such as restrictions on motorhomes and overnight parking. As far as 'wild camping' is concerned a blue badge won't make much differance in the west country. If your wife is up to it, a free bus pass can be very useful, as per Barry's idea, you can use more out of the way CL's then get a bus, does mean you need to plan a trip around bus routes, but does mean you don't have to take a van into busy tourist spots.

If applying for a Bus Pass, make sure it the disabled one then anyone with you travels free too, it doesn't need to be a carer.

A blue badge does not entitle you to free parking, it is meant to get you closer to where you want to be and/or give enough space for you to get in/out a vehicle. A lot of council car parks allow parking without a charge but you need to check each one as it isn’t Nationwide.

In most of England it allows on street parking and parking at most parking meters for free. Allways check wherever you intend going.

The main reason for the badge is to level the playing field a bit not provide free parking 👍

Do you have a source for this?

My son has a disabled pass and we can't find confirmation of this anywhere.
Your local council provides bus passes, they provide a link to Metro buses up here but they should give a number you can ring to get them to send out a paper form.

This should tell you more

This thread may be useful too

You can apply to use a BB in Scotland too, I did it earlier this year so I could take the van into the CAZ zones, it's valid for three years so worth doing if you are Jockphile as we am.

I did a thread for more info, or mentioned it in one of the CAZ threads.

This is the pass I have
