Advice please

This is the pass I have

Not all disability passes are "+C", our son is very capable of using the bus alone so he doesn't qualify.

I found this in the Hull council site.

"A disability +C bus pass is intended for use by anyone who cannot use public transport alone.
This pass will allow the holder to travel with a companion (who must not be accompanying the person as a part of their paid employment) free of charge."

We had hoped his nephew could travel free with him. Alas no.

Thanks again,

Happy Christmas and all the best for 2024.

If he has a blue badge he should qualify though, if not I doubt you would get a disability bus pass anyway, I could travel on a bus alone too, but that isn't the criteria and it supposed to be UK wide not just regional

He doesn't qualify for a blue badge but he does qualify for a disable bus pass. Very different criteria.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_National_Concessionary_Travel_Scheme
the +C is only for those who cannot travel alone, and not all local authorities issue them.

To the best of my knowledge, the ENCTS only gives free travel in England.

I see, I need my BB and use it every time I go out, I can walk fine but not very far before I'm in a lot of pain, it comes on suddenly, I have a scooter and a wheelchair so I'm not stuck, I got the BP so we could go into town and leave the van or car somewhere and enjoy the ride in out and around without having to watch the road.

I was told by my council that my badge applies to all of England including my companion.

Just received a blue disable badge as the wife is going through chemo, now can i park in any carpark overnight free. Just starting to plan my holidays for next year probably cornwall,or devon.

ftfy 😉

Seriously though I will assume you’re fully aware it can only be used when the holder is in the vehicle, around here blue badges are regularly seized due to them being used inappropriately.

On the plus side if you have ever visited IKEA such as the one at Lakeside you will be onto a winner there are literally hundreds of acres of disabled spots in front of the store, to the point you need hiking boots and overnight supplies when parking in the distant normal spaces which are so far away they may be in a different county!

When my other half was diagnosed with Cancer she was offered one but being stubborn she said no because she wasn’t that disabled, bad move cancer can be a very debilitating illness!

So if there’s ever a next time (hopefully not) or when it’s my turn to conk out we will take it!

I didn’t know use was restricted to a single marked bay, that’s worth noting!

Its for the person with the disability. Its main use is to let you park near shops and give you longer than normal. Its handy for 30 minute parking places as you can stay longer. Not all car parks except Blue Badges and dont think you can just dump the MH where you like and wander off.

I always carry my blue badge in the van but rarely use it to park. When I do it would be roadside not in a car park, on the road it gives same rights if in a car, van, bus or whatever 👍

I'm on my second BB, we have overnighted in BB bays FOC council car parks after asking the wardens with no problems at all, also with regards to parking in two bays it's not often you get them as BB bays anyway. overhanging a bay is ok so long as it doesn't have an end line, some do, some don't but if possible I always ask, always read the signs if you can find them, and never overstay, some carparks have cameras and log your reg number, and we have in the past rung the number on the sign, told them the situation IE in a MoHo and no bay big enough (this was also prior to having a BB) this takes it out of the hands of whoever is doing the patrol, never had a ticket (touch head) having a BB is a privilege so best not abuse it, Liz has been known to use it in a private carpark when I'm not there, which pees me off no end, she would qualify for her own but refuses to get one, I am not perfect either, I have parked in a BB bay and stayed in the car which you shouldn't but some days, I'm just too bad to walk far. I have also forgot to put the BB on the dash and had folk glower at me, as I glower at others who show no badge.

Free parking? Don't bank on it, sick and disabled folk often do have to pay to park, folk in general are here to be fleeced at every opportunity, that's modern broke for some, Britain. Know your place little people...

Oh! and i meant to say all the best to your wife, chemo can be very difficult for some. Full recovery and great trips away int 2024!!

If the object of getting a BB is free parking then don't bother, the BB is so you can park closer to where you want to be, if it's free then it's a bonus.

I assume all districts have to obey the same laws, so they should have the option to go for the disabled one on the website, so you may be able to apply for one still, dunno where you are so can't look it up for you area.
