AdBlue prices

I don’t think that the people that have it mapped out do it to save money, as you say it would take a long time to break even.
They usually do it because they have had too many expensive problems caused by the system.
It is usually high mileage commercial vehicles users, that have it done to save on expensive down time.
The thing I hate about adblue is all the plastic containers that end up in landfill,
I always find a garage that sells it by pump,
Unfortunately there aren’t enough garages selling via a pump

I think you are right about it being mainly commercial users Richard as I have read of people buying ex fleet vehicles only to find that the AdBlue has been deleted/remapped.

I think though that any private motorist considering this would have to weigh up the risk of expensive repairs caused by an AdBlue system against potential fines (it being illegal to drive a vehicle on the road with the system disabled) as well as potential insurance/warranty issues etc.

Fully agree about the containers as well, I'd much rather get it from a pump.

Fill up at pumps too, which pretty much always means going to a service station on M ways etc. None of my local stations have ad blue pumps.

Got fed up saving the plastic containers thinking, these a far too good for one use. Wonder if I could make a water feature out of them. :)

Don't even give ad blue a passing thought anymore, use less of it than I do screen wash.

Fresh water containers for the van?

And yet due to doing greater mileage and having to replenish Adblue more often, commercial users should have less issues with crystallisation the primary cause for problems with Adblue.
I had problems with my C Class due to crystallisation, it cost me £400 for the parts which I fitted myself. But two years later the car developed the same problem.
Hopefully these crystallisation inhibitors will do the trick.
I now have a petrol hybrid, so only the van requires Adblue.

And people wonder why ICE vehicles are being banned!
Only to be replaced with dirty battery packs which cause polution digging up 100 tons to make one battery, then there is the disposal, not clean by any standard.
Takes 11 years to eq running a diesel to break even.

Where do we start with the 'big oil' misinformation?
Well lets start with the 11 years, complete bull, takes around 18 months at worse.
Now lets look at a married persons finger, see that nice shiny ring, takes around 20tons of material blasted out of the ground to make it, puts a bit of perspective on mining.

There are many factors that are ignored/exaggerated depending upon which side of the debate is speaking; and there are many factors that we don't yet have enough information about re the long term effects of renewable energy. The cost of the turbine blades for production of renewable energy, the cost/method of old blade disposal, the mining of lithium and other rare metals to produce the batteries etc. As for the energy industry as a whole, it dependds where you want to get your lies [including lying by omission] from. Dieselgate? Woodburning Stoves are good for the environment [according to the Woodstove Professional Body]? 'Our energy is clean and renewable' according to E.on and other energy companies, ignoring the pollution upstream etc. And if ICE are so harmful, why do vintage vehicles [whose polluting engines led to the introduction of unleaded petrol ...] enjoy the exemptions from LEZs et al, not to mention the Showmen's Guild who also run diesel generators on the back of 50-60 year old HGVs ...

Any debate on renewable energy will be littered with cant and hypocrisy

the mining of lithium and other rare metals to produce the batteries etc.
So called 'rare' metals (most aren't that rare) are disappearing from batteries, cobalt prices have dropped about 60% last time I checked as over production and a drop in demand has it's effect, the latest batteries to be used in cars are sodium, a material produced in large quantities in the UK.
As far as I'm concerned there is no totally 'green' way of moving millions of people billions of miles, but should we try and use 'energy' we can produce in UK, or rely on imported 'energy'?

10l Adblue from TFM (Telford Farm Machinery also known as Toys for Mens) £9.95.
Got fed up with the adblue warnings and then the 220miles until 'No Start'. I bought a new Adblue tank, fitted a new NoX sensor. Then the kick in the teeth for being goody goody two shoes, a bill of £90 from the local garage for recoding for the new tank! I could have had the Adblue system deleted for about £250 instead of a total of nearly £800 in parts and coding, but NoX's, are not good for anyone. My halo is still intact I think, but I can't see it anywhere:rolleyes:.

All the years i stood at belfast city hall to get bus home there was maybe 10 buses all ticking over in a cloud of blue smoke, maybe thats why my wife says im so noxious these days. 😂

I don't think the older diesels were quite so bad for NOXs. Loads of smoke particles though and if you also smoked that probably accounts for the 'noxious state'.😁. Increasing efficiency started to push temperatures up a bit and that does increase NOX.
