a serious rant. was i right or was i wrong.

Our carparks are policed by the local council already so Jules may well be able to complain to his local council as well as car parking office at the hospital.

My salary is no more than that of my opposite number in the private sector and is less than that of the agency staff we employ. I have not been to a union meeting for many years. I don't think I have been to more than 3 or 4 in the last 35 years. All of which where in my own time. I would guess that I average 2 or 3 days a year off sick. After 40 years of doing my job I think I will have earned my pension.

disabled parking

we have a disibility badge for the missus.

the whole pont of these parking spaces is to be near the facilities

and i'm afraid it's first come first served, and i wouldn't have moved for nobody.

am i inconsiderate i don't think so.

wife has an appointment tomorrow if i can't find a spot i'll have to pay or park on the main road on double yellow lines.

in our local hospital disabled cars can park as long as needed.

it says on the tax form i'm not allowed to drive the car without the missus being in.

local traffic wardens are pulling drivers with disabled tax discs if they are on their own without the disabled person.:wave::wave:

If there is a shuttle bus round the grounds, I guess you can get there earlier in future, park in any carpark you can find a space, and then get the bus.

Lol...good thread....you could argue this one till the cows come home.

Depends on circumstances...some people need help from their accompanied carer, some do not...

It is first come first served so if you really MUST have a space best to make sure YOU get one...to me that
means bringing your appointment forward and getting their earlier how ever inconvenient that may be...just
like going to the airport...plan your journey to allow for delays and go early....and save being stressed out.

You mean your missus has a badge for her use only
the whole point of these parking spaces is to be near the facilities
Agreed

If you were using the badge to park whilst sat in the car then you are breaking the rules. It is issued for your wifes use ONLY. THE RULES STATE THAT IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR WIFE YOU SHOULD DROP HER OFF AND THEN FIND AN ORDINARY SPOT TO PARK WHILE YOU SIT IN THE CAR. You can only park with the badge if you and your wife is vacating the car.

am i inconsiderate i don't think so.
Yes if you say you wont move.

wife has an appointment tomorrow if i can't find a spot i'll have to pay or park on the main road on double yellow lines.
And why shouldn't you pay? I believe, as is stated in the Blue Badge Associatioon constitution, that disabled parking should all be paid parking in line with able bodied parking. That will then have the effect of stopping the fraudulant selling of blue badges and people who only want them for free parking. There would then be enough parking spaces for realy disabled people. Also why should able bodied people be discriminated against? where is the equality in that? Are disabled people saying "we want equality but we want to be more equal than others"?

I don't know where you got that statement from. It does NOT say on the tax form that your missus has to be in the car with you.

Never heard of it. Please tell me one incident so that I and my office can check it out as such a move would be illegal.

Our local ASDA store has a huge car park and is always busy, I have to smile at all the Sheep who try and park right next to the store entrance, often there is blasting of horns, shouting at each other etc all because people are very impatient and want the first available space, however just a few yards away at the further end of the car park there is plenty of room no problem parking there but that of course means a short walk to the store [horror ] and back with all the shopping in the trolley, {supplied free }I often go to the store in my 8 metre Hymer and can always park at the far end ,no problem, there are lots of Disabled bays and Mother and Baby bays for those who need them too.I think in a few generations Homo Sapien will be born with no legs as less and less people will walk a few extra yards if they can drive, on a Rally this last weekend I even saw a car towing the Aqua Roll to the water tap to get water, the mind Boggles.:mad1::mad1:

When you think that Suffolk CC issue 500 disable badges a fortnight. The time will come very soon that to issue an able parsons badge will be a cheaper option for the council:mad:

Donkey quoted Bevo as saying (though I'm not sure if Bevo did actually say the second bit, or if someone else did?):

"It says on the tax form i'm not allowed to drive the car without the missus being in.
I don't know where you got that statement from. It does NOT say on the tax form that your missus has to be in the car with you."

I think what Bevo may be referring to is vehicle tax exemption for the car, which is a different thing from having a Blue Badge? Certain people in receipt of DLA are entitled to these.

Blue badges go with people, not cars, so you are allowed to use your Blue Badge in any vehicle in which you are travelling.

There are loads of people misusing the Blue badge scheme. I know of at least two. They seem to view it as a way of life, like fiddling the benefits system; if they can get away with it, it's fair game to them.

Not a profit-centre as such but they generate funds for cash-strapped hospitals to help reduce their budget deficits, unless you're in Wales where hospital parking is now free.

We're lucky living here in a small country market town where there are no parking charges or restrictions. In the nearest city, parking is charged but there are also waiting bays for dropping off and collecting patients although they're time-restricted to about 30 minutes. Parking is tight due to lack of space and all staff, except senior consultants have to park off-site about 15 minutes walk away.

I am sure Bevo was refering to the tax exemption of the car. As indeed I was. There is no stipulation that tax exemption cars must have the disabled person in it. lLikewise, a motability scheme car which is also tax exempt is allowed to be driven by any named driver for family use of the family of the disabled person. years ago, the rules said the car could only be used to transport the disabled personb. But that changed with the intruduction of the DDA 1995. when the EU realised that the car supplied to the disabled person under the scheme was in fact a replacement for a family car.
Some authorities also insist that a car is tax exempt as well as carrying a blue badge before they can use disabled parking facilities. This is up to the local authority as they are the issuing authority for the badges. Not central government.

i know someone, who until his dad died, had the car with free road tax, as his dad was entitled to it (not a car owner) as long as he drove his dad to the shops or docs once a week at least or so.

i have free road tax on my car, which helped when i went over the dartford bridge, not realising you had to pay, yet was peniless. lucky with free road tax its free

blue badge

i was refering to the tax exemption scheme.

and it was changed last year, so now you can only tax the car once with the form(instead of 5 times with the old form)

my daughter who's husband is disabled was pulled by a traffic warden in st helens for not having the disabled person in the car.

she said she was on his buisiness, traffic warden wasn't impressed.

so i move my car from a disabled parking placewhen waiting for the missus, and then she comes out from her appointment and i'm not there and she has to walk to find me.

I DON'T THINK SO :hammer::hammer:

what a totally selfish attitude. you sit in a space doing nothing.......thats good

The vehicle must only be used for the disabled persons purposes. I would say that picking up my grandchildren for instance is for my purpose. Anything to do with my family is for my purpose. This has been proven in court as correct.
The leaflet DLA403 will be included with your Certificate of Entitlement. This will tell you how to get your free vehicle tax disc.

The Disability Living Allowance Unit will automatically send you a Certificate of Entitlement every year to get your free vehicle tax disc. The unit will only do this if you continue to be entitled to the higher rate mobility component. This is the yearly one instead of the five yearly, which incidentally I still have and in fact used to tax my camper van this monthj. As for your comment about waiting in a disabled bay. You are in fact breaking the law. and depriving a disabled person of their rights of access to a disabled parking place. BUT THAT IS FOR YOUR CONSIENCE If you were to do it in my sight I would report you to police and insist that they do something about it. as you are using someone elses badge. I have done this many times and not wishing to sound arogant, having worked in an executive position for the BB Associartion for 12 years, I know what I am talking about. I will not discuss this with you further.

Got a disabled badge a couple of weeks ago, haven't used it yet. We usually use the bus when we can as we are only about 100 yards from a bus stop (just about manage it now I have some crutches). One of the regular local bus driver drops us off outside our house (its not just us he drops many of the regular passengers near to their houses real nice guy). For us the bus stop is nearer to the hospital than the car park (not that we have a car just the motorhome & a couple of motorbikes but we can borrow our daughters car if we need to)
Noticed that the blue badge allows you to cross the Severn bridges for free.

not so cool jules

so it's okay for your car to be parked in a disabled parking space.

while the missus has to walk a fair distance to her car parked away from the disabled parking spaces.

like i said i must be a selfish *******:p:p:p

or are you trying to wind me up (that won't happen)

anyone with a brain (and im sure that would include you) would park someone else in that car park, and just shut back and forth if your blocking someone in

its because of a selfish moron, i missed a app i had been waiting 3 months.

load of rubbish

just checked our blue badge documents

it says it's for your use only if you are in a vehicle whether being a driver or passenger.

so a lot of the comments on here are absolute rubbish.

and in my experiance people who think they know everything really know absolutely nothing.

i have approached traffic wardens when parking and have been assured that we are parking legally

as previous postersays this is my last post on this matter, and it is my belief that once people start calling other people morons.

well it goes to show what their personality is like:p:p:p

Sorry you had such a bad time, Cooljules. Hospital car parks are a nightmare but I'm surprised no-one would offer to help you if you have a disabled badge and you told them you couldn't get a space nearby.
I hope you feel better tomorrow, pain really drags you down and makes everything hard to cope with. I hope the clinic is a good help when you finally manage to attend!
