I had been waiting 3 months almost for a hosp app. this morning...

set off in time, i foned up first to make sure i knew where i was going (NGH hosp) i went where i was told on fone, wrong place...totally opposite side of the grounds.

got to carpark next to it, every space taken....all disabled etc. i hung around 5 min, and saw a man sat reading the paper in a disabled bay. so i guessed he was waiting for his wife.

i asked his nicely if i could have his spot, as i had a app and was 5 min late, he swore and was nasty. he then said his wife had just had a knee op, had i???????????? i said no, cos they told me i have to wait until i was 60.

i said, as your just waiting, why not leave the space and just park up next to it, if you are blocking someone in, then just shunt back n forth.

got more abuse (had he been my age i would have got out and thumped him one)

waited 10 min....nothing. told them inside i was waiting for parking space...

this car pulls out of a space, so i let it come past and i start up.....someone else goes straight in. dont care i was sat waiting as they said they never saw me, yet i was straight infront of them

this is now 30 min, too late......

after that i had to goto into the city (howden house) 3 disabled bays....again someone just waiting for someone.

finally he pulls out...i had been sat for 20 min, needing that place, or 1 of 3. by the time i start my car, some old bird (and i mean old....it was obvious i was sat waiting, as i was a little away from kerb, indicationg to pull in....but it was the end of the 3 so reversed straight in).

told me i dont look disabled............................................grrrrrrrrrrrrr

i then ran out of diesel.....had to get a taxi to the petrol station.

i then went home....................

does anyone think i was wrong for asking the fisrt guy, if he was waiting for someone, hence relaxed and reading his paper, couldnt i have his space, and he park near it, but not taking up a space.

im out of anti depresents, and the phyco neighbours are peeing me off, but just wondered if i was right out wrong.

You were right to ask him to move .
Anyone with a bit of decency would have let you in the space .

Very annoying...perhaps phoning the hospital reception and asking the assistance of security to let you get parked and in
for your appointment might have helped....certainly might have got rid of that clampett.

i popped into the part i was supposed to be, and told them someone was sat just reading his paper, and i couldnt get a parking space...and again 20 min later.

he was still sat reading his paper smirking at me when i bogged off 30 min later.

fine he had a blue badge for his wife, who he was waiting for, but as he was with the car, i thought why does he need a space, just park in the car park, and shunt back n forth should someone come back to their car (which they didnt in the 30 min i was going round and round

it was the first week of a 9 week course of a pain management thing, i have a feeling his wife was on it too. if im allowed to go next week and i see him i wont be so calm.

there was other empty spaces, at other car parks in the hosp grounds, but i was aching as it was, so not a chance of walking.

when i had to go into town, it was to renew my blue badge....i got dirty looks from the old people who were renuing theirs, and the guy behind the counter said, he didnt think i was waiting as i didnt look disabled when my number got called out.

just a bad day.............bah, thur i might meet the girl of my dreams and forget about today lol

Sounds like a very busy place....I guess you're going to have to go a lot earlier next time and just wait and have a coffee in the waiting room. Murphy says though there will be plenty of spaces when you do lol.

i cant go any earlier, and i cant see why i should really

Going as early as possible really is the simple answer to this problem but you end up spending your entire life waiting in carparks.

If you went early enough you could wild camp overnight and if security say what u r doing then rtel them u camping to get a space for you r appoinment make sure i never run out try to keep 2 week s spare supply do know the feeling waiting on hospital at moment :lol-053: maybe canalsman then can add it to dbase lol

it wont make any difference in the NGH car park, its a nightmare, and very expensive, you get people parking in there from 6 am to go to work in town its £6 per day plus in town alot cheaper in NGH hospital groiunds, my sister is director there, she says the parking situation is there biggest nightmare, it really is, and as for CJ asking that guy to move, no way kid you were well in your rights, the selfish git, dont ya just hate people like that, i wouldnt even put myself in that position where someone has to ask me to move, just wouldnt park, and same for howden hoiuse, in town, its terrible, you can go to your local offices CJ for most things, i guess you know that.

Hi Jules,

I'm on the staff at our local Hospital and I have to cycle in or be there before 0745 as after that there is no chance of parking a van There is a multistorey but the van is far too tall to get in and that often fills up. We charge the patients by the hour to park so if you turn up early, you have to pay for it! Staff are charged buy the day or whole year.

If Tescos can have as much space as they like why can't Hospitals:mad1:

I find this typical of the attitude of most of the people we live amongst nowadays. My business involves dealing with the public, some of the stories would make your hair curl. This is why we have decided to sell up, the house & business and go full time in our 'van. We have kept a small apartment so that we have a UK address.
Lets face it, we are all getting older, no one will thank me for staying put in my business and taking abuse and insults for trying to help people in my business.
My advice to you cooljules, is, mix with like-minded people who drive motorhomes, it is much more relaxing than mixing it with the general public, they are only interested in themselves, they don't give a toss about the rest of us.
I find that the more you do for someone, they more they expect. Well, I for one have had enough. I could go on and on, but I think you get the message!!
Keep smiling and enjoy your adventures. Try and ignore the arrogance and ignorance of the poor souls who know no difference.

The real problem is thatr the people who administer the parking have no idea of the rules of use of a blue badge.
If an able bodied person is driving the vehicle and droppin a disable person (the badge holder) off they should then park in an ordinary parking bay. They are guilty of fraudulent use of the badge if they actualy park the vehicle whilst displaying the badge. They are in effect using someone elses badge after the disabled person have vacated the vehicle. No doubt they will tell you that they have not had a book of rules,, just as 70% of the people I deal with on a day to day basis do. But not even our government could get it that wrong. what they realy mean is that they have not read the book of rules. The badge holder is also guilty of aiding and abetting the driver to use a badge not belonging to them as they knowingly let them drive a vehicle with their badge displayed. If this makes sense ? ? ?
The Blue badge scheme is the biggest fraud scam in the UK and shows just what the british public are realy like. This kind of thing does not happen in the rest of EU.

Personally I am all for public transport.
Where I live teh hospital parking is abismal, and I have been badgering the authorities for years to provide a park and ride service from the towm to the hospital. This would solve the whole problem as there is no reason why anybody including disabled cannor use park and ride. But of course it is a matter of finance and the parking facilities at the crankenhause generates a lot if money.
Hospitals are not about caring for people. They are about generating enough money to keep as many mates and friends of friends in useless admin jobs there. In my local alone it is estimated that by employing not one matron as there used to be for the whole hospital. But one for each ward. would save in the region of forty million pounds a year in upper admin jobs. Thats a lot of cabbage.

If I were that guy I would have moved. He could have bagged another space shortly as he was just waiting around doing nothing.

Disabled parking is one of my pet hates, it needs a big shake up so only genuine disabled can use it ANY abuse should carry a LARGE fine and penalty points.I have had three recent Hospital visits Outpatients and the Hospital has been superb, parking at Southampton Hospitals is reasonable but MEGA expensive so I used my jolly old bus pass to get to the Hospital, this involved leaving early and a pleasant walk from the bus stop across the parks. I am lucky in that I can walk long distances and realise that not all can.

Just one other thing you may wish to know Jules.

If an organisation be it business or pleasure installs designated parking spaces for disabled people. They are, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, obliged by law to police those spaces.
You may wish to quote this to them. or tell them to get off their bleedin arses and do the job that my taxes pay them to do.

Our General hospital is in the middle of nowhere but the car park still fills up. As they expand the hospital, the parking decreases.

Fortunately, in Wales we don't pay for parking now (we did) But getting public transport is expensive and not very regular.

My wife works for the NHS and because she manages a wide area suffers like the rest when it comes to parking.

Some days I've taken her in the MH, dropped her off for a meeting while I go to a layby about 1/4 mile away. I can get WIFI through BT FON so I can carry on working, we then have a lunch before dropping her back to the office.

As for bloody minded people, my blood boils, unfortunately common courtesy appears to be on the decline (the ME, ME,Me society??)

It's good to have a rant. As I've found out, the majority of people on this site still consider being helpful as being a positive attribute rather than a sign of weakness.

yes lots of people just use it as a cheaper way to park, plus there is a free shuttle bus around the hosp grounds as its so huge, right to the main bus stops.

lol i really like that idea!!!!

i cant, i need a good hour or 2 to come round when i wake, and with the weather back to being really damp and cooler, that makes it worse. i was awake most of that night tossing

If I were that guy I would have moved. He could have bagged another space shortly as he was just waiting around doing nothing.
i tried to explain that to him. it was a large car park, plenty of places to lay up not in a bay, its one exit/entrance.
