FWIW, I wrote to Malcolm Bell at Visit Cornwall some time ago cc Cornwall Council pointing out that his claim there are "plenty of campsites" is at best mistaken because it can be nigh on impossible to get a pitch in parts of the county unless you book weeks or even months in advance. I'm still waiting for a response from either.Yup, you're right there.
Have written to them in the past. All you ever get is a standard reply saying there are plenty of campsites. They ignore all points made and questions asked.
What is Hawkins battery campsite like? Does it have views?FWIW, I wrote to Malcolm Bell at Visit Cornwall some time ago cc Cornwall Council pointing out that his claim there are "plenty of campsites" is at best mistaken because it can be nigh on impossible to get a pitch in parts of the county unless you book weeks or even months in advance. So don't Talk about what You don't knowAs I stated I have no experience in WC in Cornwall, I can only go on what I have read on here.
Local council Cornwall council Whats the difference between two buddies in here eh Witzy don’t get your knickers in a twist. It's Not the Local Councils Its Cornwall Council that is Anti Motorhomes they have been influenced by their members with interests in Campsites. Their carparks and park and rides are left empty over night when they could be making some money because of this.
Oh I won’t report you to the mods WitzySo don't Talk about what You don't know
The battery is small -- CL sized with six decent sized pitches + one that'll take a motorhome without awning. EHU is limited to 6A and fee is £22 per night ATM. There are also a number of statics on site and the old barracks have been converted to chalets, which are seasonal lets. What is Hawkins battery campsite like? Does it have views?
Presumably you prefer it to the one at Maker Camp...

The views are not as good as you can get on the 'right' pitch at Maker. TBH, we like both and are friends with Jo Phillips (one of the staff at Maker) and with Jan and Kevin, who run the battery. We're currently looking after the site for Jan & Kevin so they can spend some time at the Dorset Steam Rally. They get back this evening and then we're off to a pub stop tomorrow, then to Kemble Airfield for the Didmarton Bluegrass Festival the day after.
But they are in a position to get those signs put up which is what this thread is about angering the Locals won't helpGeneral courtesy and sensitivity aside, I have difficulty with the logic of this request.
If we were talking about seafront park benches and a request came that locals ask visitors not to use all the benches it would be laughed at. And yes, this is a fair analogy.
I believe where there is a public access facility locals need to be understanding that the demand for their local facilities may change over time and they do not have any special privileges to use them.

Yes your analogy is correct but a bit of courtesy and sensitivity go a long way in oiling the wheels of our society.General courtesy and sensitivity aside, I have difficulty with the logic of this request.

Spot on Debroos, we don't want to be regarded as some kind of invasion force, with little or no regard for local people.Yes your analogy is correct but a bit of courtesy and sensitivity go a long way in oiling the wheels of our society.
Unfortunately many beautiful areas cannot cope with the influx of visitors and more unfortunately motorhomes are very big compared to cars! As I'm sure you know.
In our area all car parks are filled with visitors' cars for 6 to 8 weeks.
Getting up early won't get you a spot at the only car park with a view if it is full of overnighters…many people are unable to walk up the steep hill to said viewing point…I did say that 3 overnighters would be fine out of 10/12 places.
So actually, I would say that in this case courtesy and sensitivity are very logical!
Also if the locals should be more understanding then shouldn't the motorhomers be more understanding too? Talking of logic'n'all…![]()
True, but at least I have my halo and loads of brownie points in heaven!Spot on Debroos, we don't want to be regarded as some kind of invasion force, with little or no regard for local people.
But sadly I have seen places up here were there were no such issues being closed to us.
There are idiots on both sides, and its decent folk like yourself stuck in the middle, who suffer most.
Don’t think so, I heard that your council leader was god, and he hates Motorhome owners.True, but at least I have my halo and loads of brownie points in heaven!![]()
Curses, foiled again!Don’t think so, I heard that your council leader was god, and he hates Motorhome owners.![]()
Motorways and some A roads are controlled by the Government, the rest by regional councils. Can someone tell me if roads in Cornwall come under Highways or Cornwall Council please?
A Caravan is defined is at S29 of the Caravan Sites and Control of Development ActCaravans come in (at least) two sorts: motorised and trailer. Motorised caravans (aka. motor caravans) are thus included. Also "vans with windows" are either considered "commercial" or "motor caravans" and so also included in the ban.
Council Council manage all roads bar the A30 & A38 which are managed by Highways EnglandCan someone tell me if roads in Cornwall come under Highways or Cornwall Council please?
