The layby above in the poi map, known locally as Wiggle Triangle has turned into van city lately.
Lots of elderly locals drive up there with a flask to sit and enjoy the view. There is now no room for them and lots of bad feeling...
Please, if there are more than 3 vans please drive on and leave some space for them. It only has room for about a dozen vehicles and we fear there will soon be a no van parking sign and we will all suffer.
Rame head car park is loads bigger

Unfortunately, the Mt Edgecumbe estate in concert with Cornwall council have banned motorhomes and commercial vehicles from Rame Head. It's also restricted access because of the narrow road. TBH, the Triangle always has been a favourite -- I've lost count of the times we've gone up to Cornish Pod in the car to get some pasties and then to the Triangle to eat them and enjoy the view. That said, the Triangle has always been rammed during the school holidays, so we'll leave well alone until mid September!

I only wish some of those who clearly despise us could read your post Debroos.
It clearly shows your/our concern for local people, which is counter to what you read and watch in the media.
I have never wild camped in Cornwall, only ever stayed in hotels before I goy my first motorhome.
But from what I gather on here, local councils in Cornwall make things difficult for us.
Sadly when we are banned from most places in an area, it can lead to over and inconsiderate use in the few areas that are left for us to park.

We now avoid some of the more popular spots in the better weather, only going there in winter.
And it's surprising how rewarding they can be at that time of year.

It's Not the Local Councils Its Cornwall Council that is Anti Motorhomes they have been influenced by their members with interests in Campsites. Their carparks and park and rides are left empty over night when they could be making some money because of this.

Therefore by definition they are making things difficult for us.
As I stated I have no experience in WC in Cornwall, I can only go on what I have read on here.

They are not banned from Rame Head during the day, just at night. A great shame as we used to overnight there and miss it.

BTW rumour has it that someone else may be taking on the chippie in Millbrook. Brave in this climate if they do!

Not the local councils its The Cornwall County Council
As I stated I have never WC in Cornwall.
But it’s one of Englands most pleasant places, a place I would like to return to.
But sadly I would probably only do so in campsites, as I am not familiar with the area. And the last thing I would want to do is upset the local people.

Unfortunately, the ban is 24/7 at Rame Head -- I've attached a photo of one of the signs that sprung up a while ago. I asked and was told the ban on "caravans" applies to both self propelled and trailers. Cornwall council aren't helping any either with the new parking ban on the verges at Tregantle, thus removing between 30 and 40 parking spaces. I suspect they're greedily trying to shepherd everyone into one of their paying car parks.

Thanks for the rumour re Chipmates. We're currently at Hawkins Battery and got a takeaway from the Indian by the Co-op. From one of your recent posts, I thought they'd taken over "Posh Nosh" and so had to go seek. Google Maps couldn't get a GPS lock and so I had to use instinct. However, the low odd numbers are at the same end as the high even numbers on West Street and so I set off in the wrong direction :( Got there in the end, though, and it was worth the effort -- so thanks for the tip.

Hmm, didn't realise that. Must go and have a look see if any vans are there in the day.
Who was it you spoke to? I have wondered whether it's rangers or council that police it... that's outrageous I'm getting crosser by the minute 😡😭!!

On a happier note...The Himalayan Spice restaurant in Liskeard has just been voted best curry house in Britain! It is by far the best place I have been to for a curry.

I phoned the council. FWIW, we've used Himalayan Spice (also when it was Anapurna) but were disappointed last time. Hopefully, just an off day?!

I wonder what their reasoning is for banning daytime parking. Might have a lot to do with the chap who has the cl near the car park....

I do hope it was an off day. Not been there for a while.

Real shame, Cornwall must be one of the nicest places I have seen in the whole of the U.K.
But if any of this can be proven then surely the council could be taken to task. What they are doing could also involve financial impropriety, or at least some within the council may be leaving themselves open to such accusations. But what really astounds me is last year I tried to book two sites three months in advance in Cornwall and they were fully booked for mid week. It seems that even if the council adopted a more liberal approach the campsites would still do fine, and that all of this is completely unnecessary.

The sign doesn't mention the parking of motor-homes, which is neither commercial or a caravan?
Caravans come in (at least) two sorts: motorised and trailer. Motorised caravans (aka. motor caravans) are thus included. Also "vans with windows" are either considered "commercial" or "motor caravans" and so also included in the ban.

If only folks used common sense.... This whole situation could've been avoided...
The problem is on one side we have individuals who enjoy the freedom offered by our pastime. Whereas most of these individuals within this group are decent folk, who appreciate local cultures and communities, their environment, and their privacy, sadly also within this group, as in every other group you could name there are idiots, whose stupidity is only surpassed by their selfishness.

On the the other side we have a council who apparently are minded for reasons unknown towards assisting those who own campsites, instead of those who elected them, and those from out-with their area who wish to enjoy what it has to offer.

The morale is common sense can only be attributed to individuals, not groups of people or organisations. And all of the decent folk should not be prevented from enjoying what Cornwall has to offer.

Whats required are rules and enforcement of them, something along the lines now being followed within Fife and other parts of the country were more forward thinking councils hold power. Not lazy councillors who want to make life easy for themselves, by simply putting up signs and erecting barriers depriving good people what many have worked most of their lives for. And notwithstanding the accusations of favourable bias towards campsite owners that have been mentioned on here.

Yup, you're right there.
Have written to them in the past. All you ever get is a standard reply saying there are plenty of campsites. They ignore all points made and questions asked.

On our recent two month trip round the south west coast we didn't wild camp at all but for sure from what we saw out on the bike Devon was much more laid back towards motorhomes than Cornwall. I'll put the cat among the pigeons a bit here and say I reckon Devon is nicer anyway but only just. :D

I have stated this many times but what’s required is national governments overriding councils who behave like this. Thats what they did in Europe.
But it shows just how ignorant these people are. How many campsites are open all year, and have they tried booking a campsite at short or even medium term notice in Cornwall. I did last year three months before I intended to arrive, and failed to do so. But of course if they have non genuine motives as some seem to think then none of this applies.
