  1. Car park New England Bay, Dumfries and Galloway.

Are you sure the sign doesnt relate to just the grass area in front of the loos, and maybe the parking area adjacent to the beach. We were there a couple of weeks ago, and no sign then, but we always go into the 'old' campsite bit, which is usually much quieter. There are also new bins installed...
  2. Is it “illegal” to wild camp in England?

I always wonder what category truck drivers come in, when a sleep stop is essential if up to the tacho hours limit? (I also think truckers get a raw deal from the appalling layby facilities in this country).
  3. Stay the night (Forestry Scotland) is back

Personally, I am more than happy to pay my £7 for a guaranteed place to stay overnight, in some lovely areas. These car parks all need maintenance, and the ones I have used often have a warden paying a visit to check there are no 'undesirables' staying. There are still so many places in...
  4. Stay the night (Forestry Scotland) is back

From 1 April, this much loved scheme is back, with a few new places. Its now a reasonable £7 a night, payable online. https://forestryandland.gov.scot/stay-the-night#map
  5. Gas vs. Electric kettle?

We use a kettle for the gas hob with a built in heat exchanger. It really does help the efficiency a lot. Similar to this one...
  6. Overnighting on Mull with campervan

...And look out for the sea eagles - always around Ben More. Last time I was up there, I was looking down on them.. Wild camping, done sensibly and respectfully, is fine on Mull. Usual places like Calgary bay are good, but many more if you are prepared to go 'off piste'. I always used to camp...
  7. Refreshing change ….

    Is that at Kinlochbervie?
  8. Mull of Galloway

Great little spot (out of season). We got woken up early one morning when the van started shaking. It was only the cows having a quick scratch on our rear ladder!
  9. Heading South in Scotland

The area outside the camc site (and toilet /elsan point) is council owned. They maintain it very well, with toilets cleaned every morning, and grass cut every week, bins emptied regularly. Why anyone would choose to go in the camc site beats me !! (And I am a camc member...)
  10. Poi New England bay, mull of Galloway

Still as good as ever, with loads of space in the (free) ex council campsite.
  11. Inverter help needed

You will be fine with the dash socket connection for your existing inverter. absolutely no reason to wire it in for your application, although this would be best for bigger loads. Keep it simple.
  12. Inverter help needed

Your charger only provides 48W to the scooter, so will only draw, say 60W from a mains inverter, and the inverter will only draw around, say 70W from the 12V dash connection. (allowing for inefficiencies). Your existing pure sine wave inverter will be fine plugged into the dash socket. Most dash...
  13. Glen Etive. No Parking

Also a new hydro scheme at the end of the glen, so a lot of very large vehicles (excavator trailers etc) need to get in and out.
  14. Stay the night scheme

Good to see there are quite a few new forests they have added to the list, which has now been updated, for stays from 1 April.
  15. Essential viewing if visiting Scotland, Cameron Mcneish.

Cameron Mcneish has produced an excellent new video which dispels a lot of the myths of wild camping in Scotland, and gives sensible advice. Certainly worth viewing to the end.
  16. Seating dilemma. Nissan elgrand the answer?

Have you seen this video (Its a DIY one) but he says he is able to supply them as a kit. Dave.
  17. Lefty loosey. Rightie tightie

Unless you are undoing a propane gas regulator in which case its the other way!!
  18. leaking skylight

Dont think halfords sell it, but easy to get on ebay or amazon. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372260227370?hash=item56ac70492a:g:hjwAAOSwAwFaug3v
  19. Caravan & Motorhome Club New Booking System

The irony is, that last summer on the NE bay WC spot, the council actually empty the rubbish bins, and mow the grass on the old site, and clean the public loo daily. Its as if its a managed site, but for free! we actually prefer it to the adjoining CMC site, as you get more space!!
  20. Caravan & Motorhome Club New Booking System

N E Bay is a great spot in the old council camp site - we use it quite a bit, and I think its just jealousy from the C&MC members (we are actualy a member, but would never use a member site - just CL's)
