Vehicle Excise Duty. otherwise known as Tax Grab.

It isn't 10% of global emissions at all, you forgot to include all the vans which are pretty much all diesel whereas cars are not, there is also the particulate size to take into account and the fact it is also carcinogenic.

And this

If you read the actual report and not the 'big oil' spin, this is what they have to say.
Nevertheless, it is important to say that a gentle BEV driver, with the benefit of regenerative braking, can more than cancel out the tire wear emissions from the additional weight of their vehicle, to achieve lower tire wear than an internal combustion engine vehicle driven badly.
They tested a variety of cars, the worst performance was on ICE vehicles badly driven

"They tested a variety of cars, the worst performance was on ICE vehicles badly driven"

Probably because EV vehicle owners drive them like complete fannies to try and eek out a few extra miles.
It's usually reckoned a new EV driver wears out a set of tyres in a couple of thousand miles, after they calm down and get bored of the acceleration the tyres last similar mileage to any other car they drive.

From memory, the information appears during the online SORN process, after you've provided the required vehicle-related details and just before you send the final instruction.

See https://thumbsnap.com/YNkMv4m7 for an example.
Thanks.

For my cunning plan to work I would need to Sorn the EV then walk (because the car is SORN) to the post office to re tax it.
Or maybe park in the supemarket across the road, SORN it using my phone, walk across the road and retax it.

Hmm not for the sake of a couple of free months, worth it for 11 months and 3-10 months is a grey area.

I put my van on sorn last day of November and got the message I can't re tax until March not sure if that was only online and I could tax anytime at a post office.

Am I missing something here? I SORN my big bike quite often as for months it doesn't get used. I just do it online and then when I am ready to ride it again I just tax it online as well. No post office involved. Takes minutes. Its best to time it so you Sorn it before the end of a month and then tax it at the beginning of one for the best value. My only gripe is they send you a flaming cheque which means photographing it with an App to bank it online.

The issue is not SORNing for months, but wanting to SORN for a day just before new tax rates are applied.

Note that it's not just farmers who are getting stung, small businesses also had a similar IHT break which is being removed, the latest figures show the hit to UK economy far exceeds any tax made by .gov.
Well come and register in France no vehicle tax unless you use the Page which many do not .
Spain very low tax and fuel costs. Currently 1.30 euro pl.
House tax similar levels at 300 pa roughly.
Income tax similar to the UK, as to farmers very few will be affected, as 65% are rented farms no IHT. Many of the others were tax avoidance schemes like Jeremy Clarksons.
The other few are businesses and my business was not exempt IHT in fact I would have loved a £1m threshold then reduced tax ( do not remember the actual figures).

Ah but they have been paying nothing until now. Have you seen the size of some of these electric vehicles not to mention how much they weigh. As to their green credentials well we can argue that until the cows come home but my neighbour over the road has a two ton EV Mustang that I think cost about £60k or something. Should it be free? I don't think so.
I second that...
