"Flank Wall Wilding"

Although I've only been a member here for a couple of weeks I've been using a campervan/motorhome for decades and have overnighted in an assortment of places - some good - some awful.

I don't travel much in the UK but when I do it tends to be short trips to urban places and frequently arriving quite late at night.

Mostly, I will simply find a quiet residential area and grab myself a quiet spot, ideally alongside a garden flank wall. Practically every town has them, they are often free of parked cars, not in front of anyone's house and well illuminated.

Now I don't know if you would call that wilding and whether or not you would see that as acceptable conduct, but I see myself as just another vehicle parked on the street. Countless number of places and no POI necessary (unless you happen to find somewhere special).

I'm usually long gone before any residents are aware of me.

Am I the only one who does this or is it "normal practice"?

when im working in the Uk which I am at the moment I do the same every night ! Tesco car park after work to cook first :) then off to one of my many spots, always a flank wall or large fence or hedge !:dnd:

a wall along a pavement with no entrances cut into it, on the side of a property

This is my kind of urban camping. Tesco's car park, industrial estate, or alongside garden fences. It counts as wild camping just the same as a forest or a seafront.

ive finished work for the day and am now in Tesco carpark in Addlestone in Surrey cooking my dinner , three hours free parking here :) then its off for some "flank wall wilding" ! Only another about another three weeks to go then its back to the Loire ! Unless another job appears .
I am even thinking about joining the local residents association !
 :sleep-027:

tmp_25837-DSC_0812462315560.jpgok Ive eaten ,had a shave etc,etc , and have moved the van , I call it "the mobile welfare unit " ! And am urban flank fence wilding with a small block of flats on my side with a very nice tall fence and handy street light that shines through the rooflight :) and the local comunity hall on the other side of the road , of which I might soon be a member :) ! The M25 is about 200 yards away but you dont really hear it with my Sony noise cancelling headphones on :) , but the internet signal here is amazing 4g all the time, I think the ariel is in the church spire facing me, its a good spot for Ebaying, you can bid last minute here ! I won a very nice 1950 Phillips path racer bicycle from here last week !
So urban wilding is good, its very handy if you need milk at midnight !
STAY LOW, KEEP SMALL,LEAVE NO TRACE

:have fun:

Ps there is a photo attached somewhere on here of my Ebay purchase :)
