sorry for all the boring questions but

Lots of good ideas there, but we don't actually know yet what OP is trying to achieve, so it's hard to suggest solutions. My van was too small to sleep in so we carried a tent. The kitchen area was set up for meals on the road & to provide some shelter when cooking as the tent was a small ridge. No end canopies in those days, so you could not cook in the tent.

So, will you need to have a unit that can be reached & used from inide the van on wet days & from outside on nice days? Or do you want a removable "clip-on" unit to convert a work van into a weekend camper, or is tre some other problem you are trying to solve. Also what van? Does it have rear doors? Does it have a rear engine? All these questions will affect what will work & what will just be a pain in the bum.

what i means is that when u open the back doors there is a kitchen that u can the cook from by standing at the back of your van and in the awning as such if you have one and is exactly like oldish hippy has discribed and is exactly what i was thinking about when i started this thread.

now i just woundered if any of you had any of that kind of camper and or had any picks

mine has kitchen acrross the back and can get to it from the rear or the front of it if it raining just have to change the water inside as i installed a 6 kg gas bottle and that wouldnt fit in cupboard and mine has lift up rear door but with barn doors you could sling tarp over with some plastic bottles for weight and fill with water so you can empty them when finished to get rid of excess weight or just use bungys

got it now ! next question is, why do you want it like that?

mine is different to this 1200216.jpg0002.jpg0007.jpg0009.jpghere is a bedford rascal danbury 2nd picture is the kitchen put away

getting the picture now.i never got round to doing it,but I did plan a hooped pull out covered tunnel to fix to the back of the van.with the doors open or closed, this could come out on 2 hoops with adjustable legs, very lightweight and be fixed with a single central guy rope to give me a 4-5 metre covered space to work in when raining

sounds very interesting and would love anymore details you have or any thing you could lead me to that my help me with using this idea on mine

the idea was to make 2,or possibly 3, hoops by bending steel tube to the shape of the back of the van.let's say 2. one hoop is fixed to the van,the second one has telescopic extensions with feet . lightweight tent fabric is fixed to the 2 hoops to form a tunnel, one central guy rope coming off the back will hold it tight. the whole thing can then be concertina'ed and strapped to the fixed hoop on the back .whether this would work depends on your van,but maybe worth a think !
