Camping-Car Park

I've noticed on a certain app that details places to stay, that if you stay on at least some of the CCPs for more than 7 nights, the price shoots up to €55 per night.

Not heard that one before. I remember us staying at one at Lac St Croix last year and there being some debate whether you could stay more than three nights I think without a booking and having the privilege pack thing but we stayed six nights in the end I think without issue.

If I see one again, I'll screenshot it.

Curiously, if you refer to the faq section of the app, the question of length of stay has no text, ie, no answer.
I did contact them a couple of years ago as I could not find mention of limitations unlike many sites who publicise 24, 48 or 72 hour maximum on signage.
I don't appear to have any record of the communication which basically stated no limit on stay. No increasing or escalating charges were mentioned.
I am uneasy about it as I also, some time since then got the impression that stays have become time limited or more costly with time. Again I have never seen this clearly broadcast.
Not a big issue as we normally don't stay more than 2 or 3 nights in most locations.
However a bit of clarity would be good.

It would be unusual. On a few aires we have stayed on over the years where they charge the price would go down the longer you stay, not up.

Bizarre. I wonder if its just a few or if they are all like that. Its extremely unlikely I would stay on one for more than 6 nights though

Would this be a particularly popular one where they have people trying to stay for longer periods?

I did wonder that. Seems a bit daft though really as its guaranteed income if someone decides to come and stay for a month. Unless its been something the local Marie has stipulated in busy times so they get a higher turnover of guests which are maybe more likely to spend more on short visits. Dunno. I doubt anyone would think about it that much.

It may be to stop permanent use.

We stayed at an aire coming back from Spain this year where 4 of the 10 places were filled with set ups that were clearly permanent in that people were living there full time judging by the stuff they had. I guess at €10 a night with EHU included; fresh water; grey dump; toilet dump; and showers at the Marina next door plus a short walk into town and to shops etc, it provides a good, cheap way of living for some folks.

I thought about that but there are 1001 places and Aires in France you could stay for yonks FOC. Maybe not so many with EHU but certainly some.

I haven't come across that time/cost restriction before but I guess they do monitor usage. As they are supposed to operate as aires not campsites, I assume they are targeting sites where long term stays have become an issue for other users and/or the locals?

The key is the EHU though plus water facilities (fresh, grey and black), I suspect.

Yes I get that but presumably CCP have priced their facilities so that they make a profit on each visit regardless of how much electricity you use as its a lower amperage supply. Nearly all Aires have water and many have electric. I believe there are still some with free electric. If you were a long stay freeloader I would suspect you would seek out one of them rather than a CCP Aire which if you were staying for say a month would add up a bit.

The CCP Aires are a major bonus though for off season touring (winter). As said earlier I remember on visits some time ago to France hunting out Aires or even sites still open that had EHU in October and November was challenging. CCP have provided a good network of affordable Aires for all seasons with EHU.

I've had a quick look at what I know are some of the most popular CCP aires and I can only find one other site operating a restriction, which is a different version to the situation at Caen. It seems very ad hoc as if responding to local issues ......

I should have said that it wasnt a CCP one that I quoted, it was a municipal one.
