Alone at Ruby Bay Elie, Fife

This is for Alcam, who can’t tell the difference between an Aire and a public car park :p

Lochore AIRE has improved enormously since our last visit. There are 18 hard standing pitches 8 with EHU. The chemical waste is now within the AIRE, and in front of the chemical waste theres a drive over grey waste. There’s a fresh water tap here as well. They will be installing toilets, and showers are being considered. There’s a barrier now controlled with a fib for entry and exit. It’s £14 a night without EHU and £20 with. You have to pay a returnable deposit of £20 for the barrier fob.
They have worked wonders here, a vast improvement to what went before.

If you're allowed to park up overnight , with or without facilities, it is an aire . It may , or may not , also be a carpark.
The above description covers many countries.
Elie ? Well you're not actually allowed to overnight in the carpark just in the motorhome area .

An aire is a French thing. A carpark you can overnight in for a charge is a Scottish thing🤷‍♂️.

Yes but that depends on who posted it. This is a public carpark run by Fife coastal trust. I posted a link to their carparks on post 25. It should be changed to a carpark. On SFS it’s a carpark with facilities.
There is chargeable motorhome parking and it is my understanding that there are now motorhome services (at least black water disposal), which according to the rules that I learnt from the former POI Admin makes it an AC.

I suppose to be precise Aire is short for Aire de camping car which means Motorhome Area. So anything that has been designated for motorhome parking is an Aire. Except its not. This is Britain and we speak English so its a Motorhome Area. They don't call them Aires in Germany they are Wohnmobilstellplatz or just Stellplatz and in Italy aree di sosta or just Sostas. :D

That site in Bill Fishermans photos is not a proper Aire though. Its far too well organised. There isn't 600 vans on it or a load of Italians with twenty feral kids parked on the service point either.

Google translate says Aire is an area, a zone, region or domain.

If you want to be really pedantic, perhaps you need to give it the title 'Aire de services' , or Aire de camping car.

Thanks Barry. But I am just en route out to a restaurant, where I'll have an aperitif before choosing chateaubriand from the a la carte menu, washed down with some champagne before heading to the theatre.
