15 Litres of lpg in Northampton Baz, equals £20.80. Okay Northampton might be the most expensive place in the country for lpg. The Shell garage do have a monopoly in the town.
My point here is, at £1.30 a litre, it wouldn’t take long to realise that a modern leisure battery system would pay for itself.
To buy cheaper lpg involves a drive of at least 22 miles into Milton Keynes. Morrisons decision to stop selling lpg has made little difference, as their nearest Stores selling lpg was either Wellingborough or Coventry.
I have to arrange my journeys to include a division to include a lpg stockist. Not always the easiest thing to do, unless going to Hereford or Littlebough.

Other end of the scale I did 7 days in a tent in Scotland in July with no leisure battery or solar generator, charged phone from car cigarette lighter. Used 4 of those little disposable cylinder in a camp stove. That was for two of us and 2 dogs works out maybe £4 worth.
We went to sleep when we got fed up watching for shooting stars and got up when we woke, luckily to sunshine every day almost.

We did two weeks in Scotland, in an Audi A4 saloon & tent, a very small tent, not long after we got together in 06, I had threatened to take her up the Trossachs, did a lot, of going down dead end roads to see what was there, we loved it so much up there, Lovely people mostly, we had seen various vans parked up, a MoHo wasn't on out list of things to get, but we bought one soon after gettign home from O'Learys, turned out to be a bit rotten, but had the best layout we've ever seen.
Our first van, it's still on the road and it has passed every MOT but one since we PX it, still only has 73k on it.

If I had to live in Northampton, the last of my worries would be LPG prices: I'd be away from home as much as possible anyway!
Getting back to battery weights, I have a couple of military spec 240Ah Deep Cycle AGM batteries.
They're really good, but they weigh 75KG each. Far too heavy for easy handling. I can only just lift one a very short distance. Even moving one end is a struggle.
OK, they were a stunning bargain when I bought them and they've lasted a very long time, but I'd have regretted paying full price.
My advice is not to buy a battery that weighs anything like that much, but that is NOT to say you should choose a light one.
For any sort of lead acid battery the more lead the better, which means the heavier the better.
So buy two or three smaller, heavy batteries instead of a big very heavy one.

15 litres of lpg is 105 KWh. At 12v that is 8,750 Ah. So to be safe you'd need 10,000 Ah in your battery. Leaving aside the question of how you'd recharge it, what would the battery cost?
You would probably get that much capacity for £15,000 if you shopped around.
Assume you have that much spare cash, and a charge cycle life of 2000 cycles, loss of savings interest at 5%, that means your battery bank costs you £750 a year in lost interest and £5 in battery deterioration for each charge cycle.
Oh, and 10,000 Ah of lithium batteries would still be pretty heavy. About 900 KG.
Perhaps 15KG of LPG, even at £20-odd, twice the right price, isn't such a bad deal.

fit 2 X 120 amp batts, double solar panels, and there will be a big comfort margin in usage,Hi all,
I’m getting my leisure battery changed and considering having a second one fitted the same time. Anyone else done this and and found it warranted the extra cost?

we have run this set up for 15 years, and found it more than adequate.

T'were a yonk or two ago for sure, it used to be a brilliant site, but VS took it over and ruined it, loads of good memebrs went to Fun, they got a new mod, bit of a merchant banker, so I very rarely go on now, if I do it's only to PM the few members who are worth talking to who's number I don't have.

Sorry to disapoint you Trotter my nearest lpg is £130 we are joint dearest , M1 services £0 99 , on way home from Goosnargh I filled up at Barnsley Morrisons £099 used 15 lts 5 nights no signs no problem at all , wtf is going on ,
