Hi I got a reply from the dvsa and yes if I’m carrying a motorcycle on it it’s then classed as a living van and not a motor caravan and has to have a plated hgv test .

Does anyone know if there any other problems not test related that I might have with carrying a motorcycle on it ? Thanks Oz

Coming up for 3 years of ownership so first MOT required.

Trying to work out of its class 4 or 7 or another and Googling is confusing me as seems to be no definitive answer.

Please would those who have a motorhome in the MOTOR CARAVAN PRIVATE HGV (ie over 3.5T) category please provide a definitive answer.
You need a class 4 MOT, just the same as any private car, with the same standards as for a car.

The problem is that every testing station has to use the officially approved lift, pit or ramp. If that isn't strong enough or big enough or doesn't have enough headroom, they can't test your motorhome.
Generally there are several dozen test stations in each town, but only a handful that can do motorhomes.

I take my Motorhome to MOT stations that have a pit. Avoids the issue with too-low SWL issues.

Not sure about "several dozen in each town"?? I doubt there are several dozen garages in each town, let alone MOT testing stations!

This laden, unladen weight and MOT class is all very confusing. It is quite absurd that to fully understand it I need to be a bit of a sleuth and read lots and lots of complicated definitions to work it out myself. and absurd that all that information is not available in a much clearer format for the average person.

On the V5 it says
d.5. Body Type: Light 4X4 utility vehicle
(X) Taxation class: Light goods vehicle
(Y) Revenue weight: 3500Kg gross

Nowhere does it tell me if it is a dual purpose vehicle or not.

It isn't.
