This years Epic Summer trip

Two things - first I don't think it's finished yet. Second, don't even think of taking the motorhome up there (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a wuss). There's a fabulous little bus route that goes round there via Whinlatter and Buttermere, the 77 or 77a depending on whether you go clockwise or anticlockwise . But they only use a little bus and they only do it in summer. So if they don't do it in anything big or in bad weather, I respect their judgement.

Edited to add - I'm planning to do it next July, for a milestone birthday!
I know the lakes like the back of my hand but legally you can't take a motorhome up there anyway as it's a 6ft 6" restriction but I have seen them go up there. There is a cracking wild spot at the bottom. I would go up on the bike 😁

that's been going on a long time now.

I remember years ago watching a program about it and the chap who was developing it dying in a Helicopter crash, very sad.
I remember meeting someone who told me about that.

But it looks like it's on schedule now - I saw bits of it earlier this year (from the 77a bus).

Amboise yesterday then on the Loire. Boring. The highlight for me was riding the bike through rush hour traffic on a cheese hunt. Michelle really enjoyed it though (the town not the cheese hunt).

If you come here the Aire about a mile out of town straight down the river was better with more space than the rammed CCP Aire on the island. No services though. €6.

More of the same today. Weather is crap. However I am looking forward to today as hopefully lunch will be better than yesterdays rubbish, I had a successful cheese hunt and the Grumbleweed beer is stacked in the fridge. I have three possible quiet Aires lined up for the weekend.

These were the only photos I took yesterday around Amboise. Michelle will have loads but she has not sent me them yet. Yawn. :D

HAHAHAHHA! I'll get killed for posting this but "Laura Croft" who literally scurried around all over the Alps and Pyrenees throwing hikers and children behind her up all sorts of mountains has got totally lost in Beaugency on the Loire! :ROFLMAO: I've just spent ten minutes from "Mission Control" on google maps guiding her back to the river and the Aire both of us getting more and more irate. Well probably because I just fell about laughing. :D

Thats her (obviously not live now) the little teddy bear face. I suppose I could have got the bike off and gone and rescued her but not nearly as much fun.

And does she read your posts?🙀

Be afraid, be very afraid.

I actually managed a bit of a rake around Meung sur Loire for all of twenty minutes in the drizzle. Dead as a dead thing. Michelle did a bit longer. We left to head for the first of three Aires I had lined up for a quiet couple of nights the first one being at "Dry". However I accidently deleted two of the way points on the map one of which was the Aire at Dry so we missed it completely, couldnt turn around and ended up at the next one at Joey something or other. Glad we did. Its like someones back garden. I had to hold up the traffic in the main street as I missed the turning and had to reverse up the wrong side of the main road to get a big enough swing to get our humongous white brick down the narrow lane and round the turning without taking the building out but was pleasantly surprised. Very quiet, near a park and a little lake. Only us here at the moment and really only room for maybe two or three more vans at a push. Amazingly the one hookup point is live and high Amperage. Snooze you lose!!

Barry, the troglodyte house looks familiar, I think we have been there year ago pre motor home days, it’s a museum I think?

Same for the Chateau, is that Saumur?

Not its Amboise. About 45 miles east of Saumur. We did Saumur for a week (well about 8 miles east of there) at the end of our last trip and liked it. Its maybe the weather but Saumur area is better than here I reckon. There was loads of Troglodyte stuff around Saumur but the highlight for me was the sparkling wine from Veuve Amiot. :D We did a tour and tasting. Fantastic stuff. Bit wobbly on the bike after.

Oh to be back in the mountains. I forgot about this short video. The last two cols we did in the Pyrenees. Just managed to upload it just now. Col du Soulor and Col d'Aubisque. Loved that area. The mad Pasty dog is in there at some point protecting his sheep. Sorry for the colourful language. :D
