This years Epic Summer trip

Lovely country
Yeah it is. We have done it before but not for a few years. What I want to do is the best bits of the Alps in France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy and maybe the Italian lakes again. It's getting the timing right though. Too early and if might still be iffy weather and snow too late and some places will be heaving. Mid May to Mid August maybe but finishing in the northern French Alps in August. Dunno. We could then do Scotland in September or maybe just a month in the lake District although I can go home for lunch from there. 😊

I see another motorhome lurking in the background in your cars spot, I found its the FR cars parking in Motorhome marked spots more the issue

He was on the move. Coming out of the campsite next door I think. :D I bet its as dead as a doornail here tomorrow. Its already quieter than yesterday. Fabulous Kayaking on the lake today but sadly no sailing to be had. More later

Spent hours Kayaking today. Perfect conditions. Nice and sunny but not too hot. About 26 this afternoon I think. Warm enough for a good swim as well. Quieter today than yesterday but it wasn't exactly busy yesterday either. Despite the weather changing we think we will stay a couple more days if for no other reason than to see what happens here tomorrow after the weekend. Couple of nice little eateries here we have used but I suspect they wont be open again tomorrow. Off out again in an hour or so for an early dinner. Feel like we have earned it today.

Found an actual Aire outside a campsite earlier for 10 euros. It takes 120 vans apparently. Only two on it! Still plenty around the other free spots though :D We are on our own here right now. https://tinyurl.com/3zzt6thz

I had hoped to go sailing today as this afternoon the breeze was pretty good and there are loads of sailing boats at the hire places but they are not open. I guess they just haven't got round to taking them away.

Can't get excited about the Loire still or anywhere on the way home unless anyone can change my mind.

Few more pics

funnily enough I had it earmarked for a stopover on the way north. That and Loches down the road. Couple of Aires nearby.
The Aire IN Loches by the river (don't think canoeing allowed) hasn't any services and if full we park in the carpark just behind

Quite grey and damp here this morning. We have moved a few miles round the corner to another unofficial spot for Breakfast and so Michelle can do a proper walk right round the island we went to yesterday. Then I think we will dump the loo in the official empty aire, have a nice lunch and probably end up back where we were the last two nights. I was a little worried about extracting our 8.5m brick from where we were as it's a short steep bending gravel track with high sides with rocks on. I got down with an inch or two either side on the bend so you must be able to get back up right? Thankfully yes. 😁

As I thought there is nobody here now apart from some die hard motorhomers. 😊 Forecast tomorrow is not bad but cooler.

The question is will I do that British thing and go swimming in the rain. 😊 The lakes pretty cold which is nice when it's 27c not so nice when it's 19c I bet.

The Breakfast spot. :D You couldn't get on here over the weekend and the lane up to it which is heavily shaded unfortunately had and still has a fair few vans on it. Many of them seem to prefer the shade but not us. Even when its warm I would rather be parked in the sunshine.

Think you are in the minority there Barry.

I don't think it's exciting enough for you but Montresor is my favourite place. In the world, not just in the Loire/France/Europe.
Think I may have been Jo . As usual can't remember.
What makes you like it so much ?

Oh I think you are right. Suits me as it generally means the sunny spots are easier to find and less popular. Its harder around this lake though as there are so many trees around it.

Its weird, I've no idea why I like it. There isn't much there - a baker and a restaurant which are both closed quite often on the days we are there, and a chateau that we've never visited.

There's a nice walk along the river though, an old lavarie, and the fairy tale of course - maybe that appeals to the child in me?

King Gontran, a grandson of Clovis, and his faithful squire were riding through the vast forest when, exhausted and thirsty, they stopped and fell asleep at the foot of the rock.

The young squire was dreaming of a young princess of Aquitaine who was too rich for him, when, waking up from his dream, he saw a small lizard on the face of Gontran.

By Our Lady, who is pulling my ear ? said Gontran. It’s a villain sir, said the squire, pointing at the lizard, I will slit its throat. May Saint George stop your hand ! said the prince. Look ! The animal is watching us as it flees, and its emerald eyes invite us to follow it.

Just then the lizard slipped into a tiny crevice in the rock. When it came back, it was streaming with gold !

The prince and his squire widened the passage and found a tunnel where a fabulous treasure was hidden. With these riches, Gontran built a castle on the hill which became the treasure mount, Montresor !

And so it came to pass that the squire’s romantic dream came true, because he became governor of the fortress and was able to marry his beautiful princess.

Moved on again after a very late Breakfast to the bridge over to the island. Michelle has set off to walk around it and supposedly find the mystery Boulangerie hidden on the island which is important as I have no bread for my Morbier cheese. :D

Bike is still on the back. I am quite enjoying this new game where you actually use the van to see stuff. Makes a change. There is a very laid back and relaxed vibe about this place out of season. Blimey! The suns coming out as I type. Its just so quiet here. Day and night now. To be honest if I thought the weather would be ok I might be tempted to stay longer. Supposedly protests going on across France on Wednesday which would be our moving day so maybe we should.
