"Your pads need replacing but don't worry, your brake discs are fine."
Have a look at them and decide yourself..."Your pads need replacing but don't worry, your brake discs are fine."
I've lost count of the times I've been told with a grave expression, "oh yes, your discs are corroded/pitted/scored, I'm afraid they'll need replacing too."
Are we being ripped off?
Pads don't corrode, but the discs do and they grind the pads to nothing if not changed or skimmed."Your pads need replacing but don't worry, your brake discs are fine."

I have found similar discrepancies with BMW dealerships. But they have aways backed down and approved warranty work when I have questioned them over it. sadly appears a case of pulling the wool over young ladies eyes. they have always provided a great service at an (un) reasonable costMy granddaughter took her car to the local BMW garage yesterday for a recall issue and a health check before it's first MOT. They said it needed new pads all round and new discs, 2 new wheels and a new bumper. She couldn't leave the car with them to be fixed as their insurance didn't cover her for a courtesy car due to her age, but she did book it in for the recall repair but was told that there would be a £235 charge for it - of course she flatly refused to pay.
The pads weren't that old so she took it to another garage for a checkup and they said that the pads were only 50% worn, the discs were fine and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the wheels or bumper.
Her car is under warranty with them so she wants any work done by them if necessary but she won't pay for work that is not needed so she showed them the mechanics report stating that the faults they reported did not exist. She has now received a full apology from the manager and they are collecting the car from our house tomorrow to do the recall work free of charge and a free MOT.
or Arnold Clark this week who didn't sayIn keeping with your thread title -
‘Yep, your vehicle is all done, & it’s cheaper than we said’

The workshop I use tests the brake fluid whenever requested and never charges if the stuff is below the absorption limit. How do you lot expect an honest dealership to earn a crust.![]()
As already mentioned, have a look.
Don't forget changing brake fluid, that's recommended every few years as well, can't remember exactly how many years, but it's not many.
The braking surface never corrodes unless you dont drive the beast, only the edge gets rusty which dont mater, but if i worries folk it can be removed very easy with a file & tapping with a ball hammer.Pads don't corrode, but the discs do and they grind the pads to nothing if not changed or skimmed.
Find me an honest dealership, and I will give them the crust from my toast this morningHow do you lot expect an honest dealership to earn a crust.![]()

I use a company called Deutchtec in Glasgow Trev. When they started they only worked on German cars but now they do most. I used to pay Mercedes monthly and had my servicing done by a dealership. But around ten years ago they quoted me over £200 for new rear pads. I went to Deutchtec and they said the pads were fine, they told me to phone them when the warning light came on, and that when this happened they had another thousand miles left. The light did come on THREE YEARS later and they fitted genuine merc pads for £85. I feel I can trust them and that’s what’s important to me. I would recommend them to anyone living near to Glasgow. I use them for everything related to my car now.A garage i was a mainyack in never took folk on, to this day i can still walk in and use the place for brake tests or tyre changing all free, & have given some of the young lads tips for sorting a problimatic job out, also get info from them on probs with modern car problems and how to sort, good bunch of lads.
Then again we ulster folk are a decent bunch of honest crimanals.![]()
Problem with brake fluid change thay can brake bleed nipples, then new callipers needed .The workshop I use tests the brake fluid whenever requested and never charges if the stuff is below the absorption limit.
Surely if they supplied the car with the number plate in the first place, they should replace it. Basically they just failed themselves.Christina took her Mercedes to the merc dealership at Newbridge where she purchased it from for its first MOT, it failed on the letter/number on the registration being too close (half a space) but an advisory for cracks on her rear tyre, never heard of a blow out on a number plate! so to answer the o/p question AYE!
Wouldn't be surprised if that's very similar to many main dealers. Certainly is for Mercs, I had a five year service plan on mine. I think engine oil is all they did.I had a Ford maverick basically a Nissan Terrano so on its first service. I asked them to change all the filters especially the fuel filter. I lifted the bonnet took a screw and scraped the oil and fuel filter before I took it to them. When I went to pick the car up I asked did you replace these filters they said yes and it was on the invoice so before I paid I popped the bonnet and checked for the marks I put on the filters they never changed them. I tore the cheque I had written out up in front of the manager and have never used a main dealer for servicing since.
