Like the title says I want to throttle this van at the moment !!
Broke down in Norfolk and have the aa picking us up shortly.
They said the throttle valve has gone as we can’t get the van to Rev and no responsive

Can anyone tell me if this is easy to do and is it costly ?

Many thanks

Possibly just needs a good clean Jaq but I don't know how much work that would involve.

Hi Rob that’s what paul said as they get so clogged up. I will keep you posted if we ever get to a garage 👍

I would like to know how they diagnosed it at the side of the road, there are a few other faults that can give the same problem, MAF sensor, low oil level or anything that puts the warning light on can put it into limp mode, no disrespect to the AA intended because the majority love their job and want to help you get home there are still some out there that want an easy ride, we had a knocking noise from a wheel (it is always obvious because it is rhythmic, you either have a wheel problem or @barryd is locked in your boot).
I was dressed in nice clothes and it was persisting it down so we called the AA, bear in mind that I am a retired mechanic and would normally just get the tools out, the AA man turned up, jacked up every corner of the car and said he couldn't find anything wrong but when I checked it myself the next day I found a loose wheel, impossible to miss, every profession has idiots so I would get a diagnosis from a reputable garage.

Have a Fiat ducat 2015. Similar problem, but mine was measly sorted. Excited a roundabout and went to accelerate away, but when I pressed the throttle I had no response. It as if the accelerated cable had snapped. ( I know it does not have one ) Called the RAC and could not find any problem with it with his diagnosis computer. So he just disconnected the negative battery for 60 seconds and reconnected it. worked straight away. Never had the problem come back. He just said a fault on the on board computer.

Update from the garage :

Our EGR valve packed up again - the same problem we had 18 months ago. Waiting for Renault guy to come and re set the van as engine still thinks there’s a fault once that’s done hopefully I can get going.

My question is why does it keep happening and is there anything I can do to prevent it again ?
I’m on the Renault forum but I can’t make sense of the mechanical lingo

Any advice would be appreciated

Blanking plates are available for most see if you can find one for yours they are a easy fix if valve is accessible just loosen it off an slide plate in

We broke down in Settle in our first ever van at a T junction blocking traffic, RAC turned up, knew his stuff but was stumped, but he did find a wire that looked like it'd been added, he then asked how long I'd had it? three days, has it an immobiliser? dunno, anyway he rooted around under the dash and found a rocker switch click brum brum again.

A lot of the cause is driving too steady al the time, diesels need a good blast occasionally,
You see it regularly people bragging how many miles per gallon they get from their motorhome because the drive at 50mph all the time then next thing they are spending a load of money on the egr valve or dpf,
If you don’t want to drive at 70 now and again then consider driving at 60 in a lower gear to get the oil temp up and the revs up, best done on long up hill hauls

Good excuse to take it out more 😊

Cars are the same these days, mine has a orange light come on every 200 miles, the go out after 200, garage of mate said cat blocked, so i smashed the inside out of it, and he put the light out, yep a few days later back on, so before mot I had it switched off, 3 days after the test back on again, i know a sneaky way round it, will be sorted for good soon.
