In another very interesting topic on portable solar power stations the use of an Aeropress coffee maker was mentioned to make decent coffee without the need to use any 240v expresso coffee machine.

I am intrigued as not come across this device but done a bit of Googling and looks interesting.

Does it produce coffee of the filter variety, which for me is wishy washy, or is it more 15bar expresso in style?

Clearly there is one user out there in the wildcamping world but are there any others?

Thoughts please as I may invest in one.

Makes excellent coffee in my experience. Been using them for 5-6 years now - motorhome, at home and hotel rooms where you only get those awful little sachets of instant 😒

Use a decent coffee like Lavazza. No crema, but a proper flavour, particularly when using the inverted brew method

A recommendation from me 👍

A good quality instant coffee. Quick and easy. Much better than the nasty stuff sold in the coffee shops. So much better for the environment too!

Not sure that instant would be better for the environment? Same source - coffee bean; plus the processing and packaging must be a higher carbon footprint than ground wouldn't it? Plus the grounds can be used in the garden after brewing. Maybe I'm missing something obvious though 😊

Absolutely agree about the rubbish from coffee shops. Overpriced, bitter tasting rubbish!

Coffee from these is ok . Think I've tried every variation of coffee maker . For me nothing compares with a well made espresso .

Just watched a video to see what this 'Aeropress' thingamajig is (see vid below).

Just another gimmick? Suppose it does include a plastic paddle to 'stir the grounds' for a fuller flavour!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

You've got to ask yourself how many new-fangled gadgets does a person actually need?!

What's wrong with a been-around-almost-since-the-dawn-of-time one of these?

Or a (long-lasting metal) one of these for a quick cuppa?

I've used the aeropress and it gives good results, but if you are mainly brewing espresso, then Wacaco's are much better for producing crema plus you can get an adaptor to use capsules of your choice.

Maybe to save weight, you can reuse the paddle stirrer on the composting loo - that will give the coffee a 'fuller flavour' :)

enough to fill the cupboards ;)

That's no good - this is camping, so that is not gadgetty enough! You need the collapsible style of course!!

SWMBO uses coffee bags in the van as it saves clearing up the grounds, but she only has one brew per day as a morning pick-me-up. Just bought a big bag from Costco (not Taylor's) at a good price.
Me? I'm a teapot.

I’m a Sainsburys coffee bag user but I do have an aeropress 3 percolators of various sizes including a 1950/60s Sona percolator I have about 4 plunger style of various sizes a double walled stainless steel plunger and various drip cones that stand on your coffee cup and a Coleman’s gas hob coffee machine, what can I say I’m a coffee addict don’t drink tea.

Hardly a new fangled gadget. Been around for a while, well in my van any way. Makes a pretty good cup of coffee. Not having well trained taste buds, I do prefer it to the arty farty barista nonsense.
At a little over 15cm tall and 5cm wide, it doesn't take up much space in the van
Another recommendation for Lavazza Rossa. Using Illy atm. not brilliant, nice tin though.
If it wasn't for Yorkshire tea, I'd drink more of it.

For me it is the easiest way to make real coffee (ie from ground beans)
Quick to make Easy to clean after and I donate the cold exhausted beens to a compost heap or suitable earth or should I write ground
I have managed to break 3 Italian style "boiler perculators " They are best but the Aeropress is very good

We have a couple of coffee machines but I rarely use them. They do get used daily though by my extended family and they seem to enjoy them. I like instant coffee myself and as much as anything else it is quick and simple! The one we have at home is Nescafe Azera Americano which I find excellent.

I did enjoy the coffee bags which Annie introduced me to as well.

There's a Dark roast Nescafe, I've only seen it in B&M's.
To this philistine, it's as good as I've tasted. As instants go, it's a winner.

Try the Aldi ones.... They are to me on a par (if not better) than the Taylors ones...

Same with Aldis Tunnocks wafers and Biscoffe biscuits...

Fraction of the price BUT all the flavour.
