Cameron McNeish Advice on midges.

Don’t listen to his pish as much as I like him he’s talking bollocks. I’ve not been bitten wae a midge in years and I stay there all the nets and sprays in the world won’t save you. Just do this one thing spend the summer in Devon or Cornwall .😜

Totally agree Wully, I only posted it to give these poor sods false hope.:)

The only way to beat the midge is really simple.

Don't be in the same place as them, at the same time.
Hence why from mid May onwards I avoid the west coast.

I agree with the man👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Oor wee midge do a grand job of keeping the Scotland free of hoards of tourists in the summer and the shite weather keeps them at bay for the rest of the year and if Wully goes south that’s a lot of Scottish road he’s freeing up taking that mahoosive motorhome and tow car to Cornywall😂.
Seriously the midge are only an annoyance its the Ticks that are dangerous and there are lots of them so check yourselves everyday and remove them properly being careful not to leave any mouth parts in your skin. Horse flies or Clegs as we call them give a nasty bite leaving a big itchy lump and can turn infected. So enjoy Scotland but beware our wee beasties.

WE get them here up in Donegal national park, I have found that cactus oil spray works 100% but the people take a dim view when I take my rags off to spray my body all over, maybe I should have done this inside the van & not in the carpark. 🤔

Skin so soft by Avon keeps them away not for men.but rather than be attacked by the flying Midges

wully why just cut the chase and say what you think 🤔 luv it well stated. Matey

I wish the old cairn kicker well, but aye wully there's some rubbish on his videos, don't get me started on his guidebooks. See Hamish Brown books for some decent hill lore.
Midges' enemies are wind, bright sunlight, a decent fresh day and a hard cold winter spell; or move to the eastern Highlands - Devon's a bit drastic, maybe Spain or France!

As said in an earlier post midges are merely an inconvenience but ticks are dangerous. Here a small Poppy Seed tick I found in my ankle earlier and just because they’re tiny doesn’t mean they don’t carry Lymes disease.

We may not have midges in Cornwall (except on the Moors) but we do have loads of clegs and ticks, especially those wee ones that are easy to miss. Oh and loads of adders of course! 😳

You never mentioned the locals :)

I'm not daft. I live here!! 😄😜
We have adders up here you know, they live in a place called Hollyrood, and are not very good at counting.

Seriously we saw an adder several years ago whilst doing Ben Venue in the Trossachs. Sadly they have bitten dogs that were to inquisitive, and the poor dogs have died. But I have never heard of anyone being bitten.

A friend of mine got bitten by one in her compost heap. Felt a bit poorly for a couple of hours. A week later her collie got bitten whilst out walking on the sand dunes. He was unconscious by the time she got to a vet. The vet said there was little she could do apart from some drug that might well kill him but, as he was dying anyway they tried it and it worked! He's still racing up and down that beach to this day 😊
Have had them in my allotment too! Adders that is, not vets...

Careful what you say on here or you'll be in trouble with the thought police. I've already had a post deleted on this thread because of a comment about McNeish's political leanings.
