But it’s been much abused by “show plates“Think they always have been, only plates made here by recommended parts shops will make you British standard approved plates and only on proof of ownership and a valid driving licence.
It is the same here regarding buying plates but 3D plates are legal in the UK at the moment Trev, but you can get 'show plates' from the internet without proof of anything, they are not legal but indistinguishable from the real thingThink they always have been, only plates made here by recommended parts shops will make you British standard approved plates and only on proof of ownership and a valid driving licence.
Mines are bs approved trev but as I said this is going to be the law along with gel ones ?Think they always have been, only plates made here by recommended parts shops will make you British standard approved plates and only on proof of ownership and a valid driving licence.

The characters must not be removable or reflective. If your number plates were fitted after 1 September 2021, they must also be a single shade of black.
- be made from a reflective material
- display black characters on a white background (front plate)
- display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
- not have a background pattern
- be marked to show who supplied the number plate
- be marked with a British Standard number - this is ‘BS AU 145e’ for plates fitted after 1 September 2021
Your number plates can also:
- have 3D (raised) characters
- display certain flags, symbols and identifiers

Life is short ....why worry....just do it!!....safe travels all..soon to be illegal.?
Seriously......I thought pigs eat what was tossed over the fence to them.

IF your usage of the word 'pigs' is in reference to the police as it appears to....
You really have plumbed an all time low of posts on here IMHO.
IF I've misread your post and it's intended meaning then I of course apologise.
Did think Trev had went a tiny bit too far myself but put it down to been an Irish thing.Seriously......

Not sure it's a farce or anything to do with having nothing better to do...Yet another bullying from gov't, the number plate legislation is a farce, as if they have nothing better to do.
Whole world of vehicle registration is a joke.
Put a bloody Radio Chip on each vehicle and get rid of number plates, save a shed load of plastic.
Reminds me to get my plate back on the road. Yep STANSK.
Ditto got U.K. sticker and new plates badged up also ,beam benders blah blah blahI`ve bought some UK / Union Flag stickers which i`m about to put on the plates so i can try them before / if we get away to Johnny Foreigner land.
If i`m not happy with them i`ll get new UK plates made up and a separate UK sticker as well because we will be going into Spain which requires it.
Problem being Joe public could not tell the police which car knocked there granny over if no plate.Yet another bullying from gov't, the number plate legislation is a farce, as if they have nothing better to do.

£250 for a personalised plate isn’t a lot of money. It transforms the look of a vehicle. Not sure it's a farce or anything to do with having nothing better to do...
There are simple to follow rules that are designed to make plates easily readable and easy to read especially at a glance OR by ANPR equipment....
It's not difficult to comply with and frankly the authorities have better things to do than deal with some folks vanity at trying to make a number plate look like their name
Or none reflective
Or tinted so dark it's nigh on unreadable
Or changing letters into numbers
Or adding bits on to make letters....
IMHO buying a private plate smacks of having more money than sense.
