Owing to a huge waiting list for the NHS I have been forced to pay to go privately for an operation. However, they tell me I must attend three days before for a CV test and preop exam. Then must isolate for the three days before the op. The problem being I have to travel a fairly long way and have no wish to go back and forth like a yo-yo. so need to park up until the date of the op. Which isn't too bad. They also then stated I must not drive for a period of a minimum of 24 hours after the operation. Then comes the problem,
I must NOT park my Van in the empty car-park overnight as they do not permit parking of any patient-owned vehicle overnight. I need the van to stay in as my wife will be with me and we need somewhere to stay with facilities. I also have to be there at 07.30 in the morning before the car park is allowed to be used by patients. I will HAVE to leave their car-park that evening, but cannot drive. My wife will have just lost her entitlement to drive it two weeks before the date, but wouldn't drive it anyway.
I have some options.
1. Tell them I AM STAYING overnight in their car-park, and stick to it.
2. Drive off in the evening, when I feel better, long before the 24hours.
3 Find somewhere on street to park which is not going to be nearby and have to walk to it after getting out of the ward. There is nowhere nearby that I have found without severe on-street restrictions.
I think option 1. is the way to go as having paid out many thousands of pounds of saving they would have no case to stop me from being there.
Does anybody have a suggestion?

Here in Belfast Royal you can stay in the c/park and get a free out ticket from the ward sister, happened to me when I drove in with having a stroke some years back.
I would ask and explain the situ to them first.

Here is about 2 miles away, 40 minute walk?

Stay in the car park and tell them you do not feel fit to drive. https://www.hpi.co.uk/content/campaigns/the-dangers-of-driving-when-ill-or-injured/ Note the section in the link.

Expert advice

Did you know that it is actually illegal to drive in England and Wales with drugs in your system that might impair driving? Even if these drugs are legal and have been prescribed by a doctor.
True, I had ones for a bad back, had to turn round and get home as I was seeing pink elephants, lucky only a mile from home, boy were they good drugs.

Is it actually in Chichester? I ask because if it was the private hospital in Havant there are more chances of being quite close with facilities close by.

My daughter moved to hunstan mid 2019 we've only been a few times ..the car park refered to above is free, it's basically overflow parking for the village cos parking in village is abmisal. There's always been space in it whenever we've passed by., But we normally park the car roadside a bit nearer daughters house . you can walk along the canal towpath to chichester, or there's buses every 15 minutes. It's about 3 miles from chichester even a taxi shouldn't be too extortionate. There's a pub and small supermarket in the village .

While you are placed in a awkward position regarding parking. You seem to still want to do what you want to do. Knowing thay don't allow parking. Telling you you can't drive after operation. I would assume you don't have insurance to drive after operation. Some have put parking places in posts. Why not park thr and get a taxi to take you to hospital and back. And save you the hassle parking and driving when you know your not allowed. I feel for you and hope your operation goes well. Gerry

We once parked up at a pub with permission and bused to and from the hospital on the operation day, the second time I insisted on a taxi as him indoors did look off/ more off than usual ;)

I have a parking place for the night beforer just outside Hunstan in a closed off bit of old road that was left as a layby, it would save me staying at Selsey Bill which is a usual stop. The hospital is the Nuffield Health in Chichester ( the charity with the CEO on£7.8million pa) and as I am paying them 7 month pension for a half hour procedure I think that I will stay that night , there is very little off street parking in the area as it is near the university and the main hospital.
It was going to be a lot cheaper to fly to Boston have it done there and come home but that went out the window with the restrictions. I have to go three days ealier for pre-op checks and CVtest then go back three days later a 7.30am for the op. The matron said I could stop overnight as an in patient for £200 but not leave a vehicle with my wife in the park. I wished I had known this before signing up for it. I am paying real money not an insurance company.
The three day wait will probably be New Forest or Weald.

Might be worth checking out this one on Chichester Parking | Garages & Parking Spaces in Chichester PO19 (yourparkingspace.co.uk)
"Parking spaces located on Otway Rd in Chichester. The spaces are suitable for vehicles up to the size of a Minibus. At this location there is Allocated Space, Security Lighting and Disabled Access.
The spaces are available 24 hours on all days.
Secure Parking at former military base, stat-navs [sic] may not take you straight the parking space just look for the wire fences and gate. Available for monthly and daily basis. 5 mins walk from Chichester University, 15 mins from St Richards Hospital and into CHICHESTER town centre/ the theatre."
The £62.50 quoted is for monthly parking, but as you can see, they say that they also offer daily parking.

Looking at Chichester parking - Car Parks, Street Parking, Private Garages (parkopedia.co.uk) the same place appears to be £6.88 per day.

Possibly about 500 metres from Nuffield Health hospital. Difficult to see the location on Google satellite view and Streetview doesn't cover that road.

Like me, he will not be allowed to take a taxi, it's 72hrs of strict isolation before admission. Aside from being taken in by whomever you are isolating with, it's hospital transport only.
