Hi
Hopefully someone can help.
The tv works well for a few minutes on 12v then the picture starts to flash. A few minutes later the tv goes to standby.
It isn’t the tv as the same happens with another one.
Any ideas?

A low voltage signals the TV to go into stand by? It sounds like the power supply to me - or a duff leisure battery. Lights etc. pull a lot less current than a TV and won't give such a high voltage drop.

Hi
Thanks for that. There is no problem with the voltage. Lithium batteries and 13.8v.
Just noticed that the fitting is a little warm so maybe this is the problem?

I wonder if your 12v socket has a thermal resistor/relay in the wiring your pulling too much power for it maybe needs a heavier gauge socket with wiring to match directly to battery with a suitable fuse

Did the tv work ok previously or is it a new one and the first time you`ve tried it ?

Is there a different 12v socket you can try it in ?

Fittings should not be getting warm. When they do there is a problem that needs fixing. If you are using a 12v cig lighter type plug then it probably needs replacing along with the plug. Don’t use a cheap one.

I have had a problem with an Avtex tv for sometime. It would be fine for a while and then just go to standby fir no reason. It could do this 3 or 4 times and then be ok for a few days. I thought it a problem with the tv but Avtex had it on test for a week and it never cut out!! Sod’s law!!
I thought it a problem just on 12v but I have recently used it in the house and sometimes the same problem reoccurs.
Last night it happened 4 times in 20mins!!

Don't you just love electronics. You run it off 12v in the MH and it switches its self off. You move it inside and plug it in using a 240v o 12v power supply and it does the same thing. The only part that is common is the TV and thats been tested. Ok so set up a camera and video the TV and wait for it to go off then you have proof that it does switch off. Make sure you also video the cable and anything else connected. Then send them the video and ask for their comments ;). It could be something as stupid as its getting warm and a component is failing and they tested it in a cold room. Could also be a loose cable and with transport when they tested it it was Ok and then they shipped it back and the cable moved again.

Out of warranty they are throw away items repairs seem to cost more than they are worth and then a different part fails but that is my view on electrical items

Heavy wire fused to socket and do use a good socket and plug, light weight ones heat up.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be a bad connection between the cigar lighter plug and socket. As soon as it starts flashing try twisting the plug in the socket to see if it improves connection, I solved mine with a sliver of wood to hold the plug firmly in the socket. Hope this helps.
