Canoe/marine battery and charging it inside a motorhome

Same here... I love the sound of the water and my enjoyment would be ruined by an engine clattering away close by.

In my case the electric would only be used in certain occasions when I need to be a bit more hands free.

I did consider parting with the Mcnulty and getting one of these...

But I doubt it would cut through the water in the same fun way ;-)

The sister forum 'motorhome builder' has some techy members knocking about on it that might also come up with some ideas. I don't think anyone would mind you asking the same question over there. Same 'log in' as here gets you on there, Trev will also get to advise you twice everyone's a winner!

Thanks for posting. That's too noisy form my liking too. I'm still veering towards an electric one.

Thats a 2 stroke and may be banned from some waterways,and there noisy though light,that type is a hedge strimmer engine,dont buy one,a yam 2 short would be better but its also a 2 stroke,4 strokes are qt up to half throttle but a we bit heavy.

One other option if you want stealth and to be hands free are pedal drive kayaks, some of which are also inflatable.Not the cheapest option but worth a look.
You use paddles to launch and land then ship them and use the pedal drive.They are not a gimmick but probably not for the open sea, just sheltered bays. Having said that I saw an experienced kayaker land a 9lb bass off Towyn a couple of years back.He had a top of the range Hobie model and always wore a drysuit ,life jacket,and carried a handheld VHF set. I was dead set on buying one a few years back and it even steered my choice of van for storage, but arthritis has put paid to that dream.

I have a Minn Kota which I have used to propel a canadian canoe, a Sevylor Colorado inflatable kayak and also on a fold up wooden boat (Seahopper).

They are great little motors and silent. I've only ever run mine for 1-2 hours (110 AH battery) so I'm not sure what the total capacity would be. You can also purchase or even make outboard brackets to fit most canoes/kayaks.

Thank you. Ah, that's good to hear. Glad you're please with it. I can't imagine we'd be running ours down too far either. Have you had any experience with charging the battery in a motorhome/caravan? And what battery do you use? Is it a lead acid, deep cycle marine battery? The ones I'm looking at weigh about 24kg which seems a lot to me, but maybe thats normal.

I use a 12v lead/acid leisure battery such as you would have in a camper/motorhome, I have only ever charged it from mains though so sorry I can't help you there.

I've had the motor for probably 20 years now and have even run it from a standard car battery before now.
