Good quality DC/AC inverter?

Hi all....what kind of inverter is the best to buy? Is there a big difference between modified and pure sine wave? Been looking on eBay, and you can pay anywhere between 25 and 250 quid for a unit. Obviously you gets what you pays for in a way...but I basically need one for laptop, charging toothbrush and phone, set of hair clippers etc...ie nothing with huge power requirements.

Been fulltiming now since Oct, and I like it a lot!
 
Laptops are charged from a 19v up voltage plug in cable to cigy socket,phone from usb sockets as with some hair clippers and t brushes,wast of power inverters but all depends on power required which from what you list is very little,id think £25 at most,as for p s wave i would say only if using electronic stuff like tv etc.

You'll find most things by searching 12v laptop charge 12v hair clipper adapter etc for items like that, search amazon/ebay/google, invertor you only need to use as little as possible when you can.

There are also multi use 12v adatpers that can be used to power many other small items by just switching the plug end, as long as you make sure the output is correct for the appliance, which you can check by matching required amps needed on the sticker/info on the appliance info label.

If you really need an inverter get a pure sine wave. I have seen too many laptops etc. have problems with the cheaper modified square wave type. Just remember the power taken by any inverter is quite a lot from your battery even for a small device, i.e. 300w load can take around 30amps.
 
Ok thanks very much for the replies everyone, looks like the pure sine wave jobbie is the thing. Ouch, though, on the price: at least a hundred quid!!
 
You have missed the point,you do not require a inverter as all can now be run of 12v or 5v usb.
I just bought myself a usb shaver/trimmer and its the bogs dollocks.

We're full time and like people have pointed out, we use a USB razor and clippers, USB toothbrush charger and a 12v charger for the laptop, we've even got a half decent USB vacuum cleaner! So unless you have any devices that can't be used either USB or 12v (hair dryer springs to mind) then an inverter probably isn't required.

I have a 12v hair dryer and its ok,not brill but works.
