Wanted--- motorcycle

Hi poppy,lm not a fan of the 1150,more into the earlier stuff the r series. Have you thought about the Suzuki Bergman style of bike that would be easy to mount as in not having to throw a leg over it.that type of bike is very well balanced and powerful enough to make progress, Yamaha max is very similar.dont confuse these bikes with scooters,I appreciate them,my ride at the moment is busa but l know it's got to go sooner or later before l loose my license or kill myself.

Yes, I've looked at the burger van, but being an old school rocker from the 60s, well you can guess the rest

Love the bantam think it was every youths first bike .my first was a Frances Barnet 125 .then a big 150 bantam. Then a AJS 250 .then the japps took over .

It was a Bantam that got me my first ever fine. As two 14 year olds who knew everything, my pal John and I pinched a couple of gpo telegram bikes from outside Stockport main post office. Things went well until one of us ran out of fuel in Levenshulme. So as we were pushing the bikes towards a (VIP) petrol station a bobby got of his bicycle and asked why we were pushing these red bikes !!Anyway, the upshot is that we were each fined 10/- and banned for a year (at 14 ???)

I understand where you are coming from Oppy :( .. I have considered the Suzuki Bergmann, they do different engine capacities, but difficult to wrench myself away from my bikes.
I used to have the 1150 RT, nice on long journeys, but not fast enough for my Germany jaunt.
I now have a sick K1200S, K1300S and my daily commute a Bandit 600 (1999). The Bandit can be bought quite cheaply and I have found it to be a more reliable bike than the BMWs.
I have dropped it once, and parts were quite cheap, as long as it is not the fairing :(

I've always had a bike since 1960, this has been my only Beemer and it is the most comfortable long distance bike that I have ever owned. But the best bike that I have had was my Bandit 1200 (ex Bandit Cup) and the worst, after the Commando, was the 650 Bandit that I swapped it for. I really fancy a 600 Bandit, but I imagine that finding a guddun these days may be a tad difficult

Wow, thank you for that, but I do not have any spare cash, all that will be available will be what I get for the beemer
Peter

No problem and good luck with finding what you want :)

Will get mine advertised properly soon as it such a waste for it to be standing and not used.

Had a couple of FJ 1200's and toured Europe on them and also got a great deal of gravel rash from the last one, wonderful bikes though

My previous bike was an FJ1200 as well. Had it for 16 years but downsized to the W650 when it started to scare me...

It does seem to me that just about every bloke over 50 had a BSA Bantam at some time in
his distant past.
Well just to be different I had a 125cc virtual copy of a German DKW,...... Oh hang on that
was a BSA Bantam wasn't it? Can't get away from the bloody things LOL.

DKW or was it Auto Union?

I am over 50 (62) and my first bike was a 175cc, but a Honda. Never owned a British bike, I moved from Jap to German, but could settle on a Brit now.

Getting an original GSF Bandit can be done, but because there are so many modifications possible for the Bandits, you may be hard pressed to get one in original condition.
Mine is original (ish), I changed the front indicator stalks for the flat type, cos the indicator is the first item to get broken when "dropped".

I've been thinking (longing) to throw my leg over something, been bikeless since 2007, the last bike was VN1500, prior 5 bikes were all HDs, done the, The Jap, German Italian thing to death, HD filled my world, so not sure what to get, I have drug relieved balance issues, but not sure I could live with a scooter though, or an Enfield, budget very much sub £2k.

Any suggestions of a good strong reliable bike?

I love BMW (bikes) but got to admit, you can't beat Jap for strong reliable construction.

I love listening to you youngsters.

For my first bike, I went in at the Deep End. It was a 350cc, pre-war SOHC MANX Norton, went like the clappers, no kick-start, no lights, no tax or insurance, paid twenty quid for it in the late 50s. My parents were unaware of this venture, Kept it in a mate's garden.

Next bike was legit, A 350cc Rudge Ulster, also pre-war, twin port, bronze head with a hand gear change on the tank.

Then, for some strange reason I bought a NSU Prinz scooter with electric start. Soon got fed up with that & bought a Triumph Bonneville, talk about Chalk & Cheese!. I remember selling it for more than I paid for it new.

Then I discovered Girls!, bit difficult parking up in Epping Forest for a bit of 'Slap & Tickle' on a bike.

Wish I had those bikes now.

A mate & I did the same thing but it wasn't a Bantam, this was an AJS 500cc twin, didn't even get it going before we were apprehended by plod, they were watching the cinema car park.

Ended up in Stratford Juvenile court but luckily my mate had a wealthy dad who hired a top lawyer & the case was dismissed.

I quite like the look of this on our local Facebook page....not a lot of money.

Hi folks, as many of you know I am the proud owner of an 1150 BMW, but now because of physical and health stuff, it's got to go. I think that I have a buyer, so if the sale is successful, I would like another bike. But it needs to be quite a lot lighter than the quarter ton beemer, but fast enough to keep this geriatric old rocker rolling and with an electric leg. Because we do not have a lot of spare cash, it has to be no more than £1700 (the price of my beemer), so do any of you have an embarrassment stuck at the back of your garage or shed? (yes yorkie lass, give Dave a kick !!!!) please bare me in mind.
Ta Peter

I'm having the same problem with my Honda Shadow, love the bike but with my health issues it's just too heavy for me now. I've been looking at the Suzuki SV650N (I don't do fairings) my son owns one and I have to say it's light, fast and handles very well, the torquey V Twin takes some mastering (even though my Shadow is a V Twin it's a lot more forgiving) I looked like I'd just started to ride for the first two miles lol.

Regards,
Del

Y'know, since I posted this thread, so many memories have been evoked. I posted about being nicked for pinching a Bantam, and then a post came up with their first bike. My first was a sprung hub speed twin that I bought for £8.00, no licence, no tax, no insurance either. If I'd kept it I would probably be able to afford a villa in the south of France. But that was the way it was. We all bought our bikes, mainly 50's vintage, at the local coffee bar, but remember that our weekly wage was in the £2.10 area( well mine was). Although just before I met Sue in 1963 I swapped my then latest bike for a Jowett Bradford van, it must have been kinda special, cos after more than half a century, she's still cooking breakfast for us. This has also led me to rooting through the toons from around then ( I do have a few that are rather special tho) this is another one that has reared its ugly head
