Wanted--- motorcycle

Love the bantam think it was every youths first bike .my first was a Frances Barnet 125 .then a big 150 bantam. Then a AJS 250 .then the japps took over .

From what I can see of the bike in question, that isn't a Bantam, it is a single cylinder 4 stroke 250cc C15 whereas the Bantam was a single cylinder 2 stroke 125cc or 150 cc, at one time I owned all 3 of them.

If you were hungry for power, the Bantam also came with a 175cc motor!!

I find myself in the same boat, my FJR1300 is up for sale as I'm finding it too heavy these days :(

I bought a 500 Bullet and finding it great fun plodding round the country lanes :)

The problem I find is insurance,

having taken my moped test, motorcycle test and car driving tests not that long after decimalisation insurance is still so expensive where I live, it is cheaper to insure a car rather than a 125.

For me a 125 is a kind of petrol powered mobility scooter, just right for riding out into the countryside visiting canals and rivers very early on a Sunday morning during the summer.

The price you pay for living near to central Londistan. As an old codger I can get Full Comp. with breakdown cover
on a new 125cc. for less than £100, but I am 45 miles from that lawless centre.
The 125cc is ok for what you intend, but dual carriageways/motorways!! Doesn't stop me though, having got rid of
650cc I often visit my old dad 220 mile round trip, not too arduous but generally on weekends summer only.

It does seem to me that just about every bloke over 50 had a BSA Bantam at some time in
his distant past.
Well just to be different I had a 125cc virtual copy of a German DKW,...... Oh hang on that
was a BSA Bantam wasn't it? Can't get away from the bloody things LOL.

DKW or was it Auto Union?

Sorry, I’ve just noticed the other post, didn’t think Bantams came in red.

Only models I remember were olive green with a few black.

The racing roosters came in many colours and models from the d1 to the d14/4 and bushman,i had most of them.

New models 500cc with the later frame are the dogs danglies.

I went for a mbike MOT today. Parked up was 500 Enfield must say it
looked pretty reasonable quality considering it being a budget bike.
But next to it was a 750cc Norton Commando L reg. 1973? and that
to me represented one of the best in motorcycles that Britain produced
for that time, and bearing that in mind it looked so impressive and imposing
even today.
Whereas I couldn't think that way about the Enfield, there's so much
better out there representing this time and age.

Ptoblem was the commandos leaked oil and blew up very regular and so did most british bikes when sledged on,remember most were mid thirties val page stuff.

If a Scooter would be OK, WC member barryd has one for sale. Here is a photo of him on it.

Yes so true, but it was 50 years ago we didn't know much better then,
until the Japanese came along!
The Indian manufactured Enfield copies of today are a bit better than the
originals of yesterday so I'm given to understand, but really should be much better.
But then again they are fairly cheap and should be, with cheap labour and no real
development costs involved. I've never owned one or ridden one, so that could be why
I don't appreciate the virtues that actual owners find.

To me the original Commando represents true nostalgia. Oil leaks and engine disintegration
notwithstanding!
Whereas the copy or repro Enfield represents a recreation of the past,
a kind of manufactured nostalgia. Is that not a kind of fakery?
I wouldn't want to own either.
But then I know comparatively little about mbike makes etc haha.
I just like riding them.

This should provide an insite into the indian enfield, there are several videos that follow it if you find it interesting.

Hi folks, as many of you know I am the proud owner of an 1150 BMW, but now because of physical and health stuff, it's got to go. I think that I have a buyer, so if the sale is successful, I would like another bike. But it needs to be quite a lot lighter than the quarter ton beemer, but fast enough to keep this geriatric old rocker rolling and with an electric leg. Because we do not have a lot of spare cash, it has to be no more than £1700 (the price of my beemer), so do any of you have an embarrassment stuck at the back of your garage or shed? (yes yorkie lass, give Dave a kick !!!!) please bare me in mind.
Ta Peter

Are you still looking? If you're able to stretch the budget a little, I am about to put my Kawasaki W650 up for sale. 2002 model with 32K miles. Not used for a couple of years and currently on SORN. These generally sell at between £3k - £4k but I am looking for £2500 including luggage for a quick sale.
