Just read up on France diesel prices, bit of hike up to 1.35. Bugger, and I have just gone to a bigger van. Oh well best I preload on food supplies to save some dosh to pay for fuel, now I have 900kg payload....

France

There's plenty of €1-35 around....as usual to be found at supermarket fuel stations. Or use fuelflash.eu

It`s a few years since it was a lot cheaper :rolleyes2: the crap £ - € exchange rate isn`t helping either :mad2:

It's a cunning plan to squeeze more cash out of British motorhomers.
When the new speed limits come in July, unless I use dual carriageways, our van will not spend much time in 6th gear.
So our fuel consumption will increase.
I'm looking at having the ECU remapped. The insurance want to charge me an extra 10% for the privilege.

Or shall I just avoid France?

And then have to cough up for the long ferry fares.

I Paid last week when i filled up the van one euro 10 cents going up slowly here now

And there’s me complaining that the price has gone up to 80p per litre here in Morocco.

In the overall picture of my trip abroad how much a difference is it going to make, buttons. It’s no big deal

Mmm !

So fuel in France has crept up
Aires are very cheap/free
Food probably about the same ?

We are planning
1 France to Switzerland 500 Miles so under £100
2 Switzerland to Italy Via Simplon 40 Miles so circa £75 and the Swiss Vignette at say £30 but no Tunnels/tolls
3 Italy to Sicily tour in Sicily (up to 600 miles) (yes I know Sicily is Italian) and north to Austria via Venice area maybe 3000miles so £600 or more plus Tolls
4 Italy back to Calais via Austria (no Tolls) 700 Miles so £120

All based on a very realistic 30mpg

Fuel is a big item increases are a fact of life

My main gripe with this trip is
a) the various Alpine tunnels @ £60 or so which I plan to avoid
b) toll roads in Italy and I believe that it is unrealistic to avoid all
c) cost of Fuel in Italy
But we have decided Italy is good and "loads of Sostas"

We toured Scandinavia in 2016 and as we "free camped" a great deal (over 90%) it was not that expensive

No point in having a MoHo and not travelling !
Sod the costs but try to minimise !

I rarely note the price - I can't change it so just pay up. I try and fill at supermarkets if possible though.

Diesel engines to be got rid of,so price em of roads, simple.

its not just diesel though . clothes ,food ,shoes ,all been getting dearer . used to be go abroad and kit yourself out but its been getting dearer for a few years .
these days i say take as much food as you can . dont buy clothes over there its cheaper in uk.
but bring beer wine etc . back to save a shilling .
spain is still ok for diesel . france got expensive for food awhile ago.

mind i find uk ok. just live within your means .
i was always brought up that if you have a pound how much have you got to spend?

as little as possible . you never know whats coming round the corner.
unfortunately so many buy the dearest and never try the cheapest.
i,m sure you get the idea.

Your reasoning is flawed I think.

If your road speed is reduced by some 10% then your fuel consumption will improve considerably. This may be offset to some extent by using a lower gear but if the engine is still running at a good point on the torque curve there should be little detriment ...

We've always enjoyed driving in France although it's not much fun in winter, So this year used the ferry to Santander and don't think it was any dearer than driving and now with the fuel increase its leaning more towards the ferry with the winter prices

So the ferry is under £130 as thats about what it costs me to drive?
