I have always been very pleased with the woodwork in our Hymer. Except we now have one problem....

bed woodwork.jpg

The picture shows part of the french bed. the laminate/foil has gone brittle, bubbled and is peeling off the corner section. The wood appears to be in a good state.

Behind this section is the water heater, my first suspicion was that it was getting too hot behind the wood, but I have placed my hands down there several times and it does not appear to be over hot.

Does anyone know of a supplier of foil or a specialist company to effect a repair ?

Strip and paint !

If you do not want to use fablon (or the like)
Either match to colour exactly or choose another similar but different brown.

Depending on how much of this is "normally in view"

Depends on other woodwork etc within the vehicle.

From this forum..

A man came home one day to find his (blonde) wife sweating and exhausted wearing an anorak and a Parka / Parker.
He asked her why !
" I wanted the paint the bedroom...The instructions on the tin stated....Best to put on two coats" !!!!

Maybe at this time of year 2 coats is best.

I'm pretty sure that you can buy that wood grain adhesive plastic - light pine by the looks of it. I'd expect you could colour match it quite easily. Check with Hymer and see if they stock it still.

Problem is why is it peeling off?

May just have been put on badly in the first place or the heat from the boiler is causing the glue to weaken and the plastic to become brittle. Is it in direct sunlight? That could cause the brittleness and peeling.

We have something similar, but ours is outside the shower due to a leak. I managed to get some tape, colour matched, well near enough. Have replaced once in four years. I have looked to see if we could get a replacement trim panel from the likes of o'Leareys but without success.
