I'm a new user to the free Navmii satnav app and free maps for any country including free updates forever. I've run it in parallel with my older tomtom and compared each journey with good results. It's easy to use, has loads of options including safety camera alerts and traffic information etc. The maps are brilliant and free to download so you never need to be online to navigate. So far I've downloaded East & Western Europe, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Canada. I've not downloaded Russia, Ukraine or USA because I've no plans to travel here anytime soon, but they're all there if you want them. You can pay £1.49 to remove the ads but there's hardly any and they're not in the way so I've not seen the need yet. You can search for an address by postcode, town and city but I'm yet to figure out how to navigate by latitude and longitude so the wildcamping poi's currently present a problem. But I have to say, for a free satnav app and free lifetime maps for 90 countries 26 million users can't all be wrong. I'm enjoying using it and enjoying discovering new functionality each day. What3words is interesting which is fully integrated into the app and if it takes off they believe will negate the need for latitude and longitude navigation on most popular devices. Interesting!!

Anyone else using this?

Not yet... but definitely going to give it ago as having tom tom troubles.. I`ll let you know how I get on

Have used this program for years and it is getting better. Used on my Nexus and now on my iPad mini which provide a large easily read screen.
However, typical Apple as not all maps are free, but the cost is buttons.
Unfortunately the iPad mini 2 which I have does not come with GPS, although salesman said it had. It makes use of local wifi signals which are a bit scare in any rural location. I had previously purchased a stand alone GPS sensor which bluetooths data to iPad and after Apple updated their software it works excellently.

I have the Western Europe loaded on my iphone, and it makes a good backup, in case the dedicated Sat Nav dies. Great ap.

I am using copilot on a Samsung galaxy note 4 and am very pleased with it.It is not free but very reasonable(about 30 quid for western europe and £8 a year for live traffic.) with free lifetime map updates.I have had tomtom and garmin stand alone satnavs in the past and copilot wipes the floor with them. These smartphone navigational apps are making big inroads into satnav sales and understandably so.I don't think I will ever buy a stand alone satnav device again.

Can you tell us more about the standalone GBS sensor, make, model, etc., as I would like to set up my Apple iPad mini as a navigator.

I think that it is only the iPads with SIMs that have a GPS receiver built in but I am not sure how well they work if you use them without a SIM fitted.

I have used this for about a year on a tablet, its OK as basic sat nav but the biggest problem I have have is being unable to load POIs.

I tried contacting tech support who put me in touch with one of their beta testers but without success. The folder structure on my tablet was different, I even tried looking for hidden folders. all without success.

I eventually bought a noza tec which lets you load POIs.

Download this app. Open the map and select your desired location to navigate to. It will have a unique three words grid reference. Cut and paste the three words into Navmii and select navigate. It is exactly accurate.
